Our CEO, Michael Morrissey, attended the National Skills Week 2024 launch event at The National Press Club Canberra yesterday. During the event, Professor Barney Glover AO emphasised the urgent need to address the under-representation of women in trade roles, highlighting the significant gender gap in our workforce. The under-representation of women in the construction industry is a significant issue, with only 3% currently accounting for the workforce. It's clear that change is needed. Brick and Block Careers team is committed to promoting a more inclusive industry and addressing the gender gap. We firmly believe that addressing gender imbalance is not only a matter of equality but also crucial for ensuring business success and meeting the future needs of our workforce. #brickandblockcareers #bricklaying #blocklaying #womenintrades #NationalSkillsWeek #DiversityInTrades #WomenInConstruction #hia #Masterbuilders #thinkbrick MEGT (Australia) Ltd Housing Industry Association (HIA) SkillsOne Television Hilary Ashworth Anne Cazar

According to the World Economic Forum, it will take 131 years to reach full gender parity if progress continues at its current pace. Challenging this statistic is UK non profit Women in Transport that has made gender equality its mission statement for the last two decades by supporting the professional development of women working in the transport sector. In #8 of Zag’s Mobility Leaders: Women Making Moves series, we sit down with the CEO Sonya Byers who explains why equal access doesn’t mean equity. “In our Equity Index Project, which analysed gender diversity in 72 organisations, we found 23% of the workforce to be female but less than half of those women are in transport technical roles and the rest are in non-transport-specific roles such as human resources, marketing, finance and admin. These roles are of course very valuable, but the skills are transferable. We want to increase the number of women in roles that require specific technical transport skills and we need to target those roles that are truly underrepresented.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/edghdt3t

💡 Despite comprising approximately 39% of the global labor force, women represent only 16% of the energy sector workforce, as reported by the International Energy Agency. This underrepresentation highlights the need for concerted efforts to harness women's talent in male-dominated sectors. 👷♀️⚡ Principle 4 of the #WEPs emphasizes the importance of creating opportunities for women to enter traditionally male-dominated fields such as electricians, mechanics and more. 💡By recognizing women's interest in these roles and providing avenues for education and training, companies demonstrate a firm commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment. Such initiatives not only benefit individual women by opening new job opportunities but also contribute to a more diverse and inclusive workforce. 📋 Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/ddjSBaNy #WEP4 #Equality #Diversity #Inclusion #WomensEmpowerment #ElectricitySector

Women have the ability to pursue a wide range of occupations in various fields and industries. Over time, significant progress has been made in breaking down gender barriers in the workplace, and women have increasingly entered traditionally male-dominated fields. Women can be found in roles such as doctors, engineers, scientists, CEOs, teachers, pilots, firefighters, police officers, and more. Additionally, women are excelling in creative fields such as art, writing, music, and film. The diversity of occupations that women can pursue is vast, and their contributions to these fields are invaluable. Efforts to promote gender equality in the workplace are ongoing, with the aim of eliminating discrimination and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of gender. It is essential to recognize and celebrate the achievements of women in all professions and to continue working towards a more inclusive and diverse workforce. #WomenInSTEM #GenderEquality #Diversity #Inclusion

A recent survey by the Young Women's Trust found that 15% of HR decision makers still think that men are more suited to senior management jobs than women! A reminder that while huge progress has been made there is still work to be done for true gender equality. At Talent Locker, we believe a supportive and inclusive culture naturally promotes a diverse workforce. 🤝 There are many ways to invest in your employees to help them achieve their full potential. Things like mentorships, training qualifications, or regular 1-1 meetings. Our recent Great Place To Work UK survey results showed that 100% of our employees felt they are treated fairly regardless of gender. We are also proud to work with clients who prioritise an inclusive recruitment process, many of whom are members of institutions such as the Women in Finance Charter Industry Board. Investing in women is an investment in your business. There is no room for discrimination in 2024! #investinwomen #iwd2024 #internationalwomensday2024

No (good) surprises there! Hardly any change in gender equality in Swiss companies. The women's share in management is advancing at a snail's pace 🐌 : 1% per year ⁉ As the latest Gender Intelligence Report unveiled today in Zürich by Advance – Gender Equality in Business and Competence Centre for Diversity & Inclusion (CCDI-FIM) - University of St.Gallen (HSG) points out: ⚠️ Women still account for less than a quarter of top management positions in Swiss business, although they represent almost half of the non-management workforce. The good news is that we're not going backwards. The bad news is that we're not moving forward. 🙃 So roll up our sleeves, Career Women's Forum, The A Effect, impactIA Foundation, we've still lots of work to do! #GenderEquality #Parity #Inclusion #WomenOnBoards

Prioritize DEIB at All Levels As seen in Hunt Scanlon Media's recently released 2024 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Report, Odgers Berndtson partners Lauren Kincaid and Catherine Bass Black and principal Ann C. Wheeler, Ph.D. sat down with our editors to discuss how #diversity and gender equality is taking center stage in the private equity sector. While leadership diversity is essential, #DEIB should be a foundational element at every level of the organization, from entry-level roles to the boardroom. This requires addressing the Broken Rung predicament: Companies must proactively nurture career paths, promotions, #development, and sponsorship efforts for women, at all levels of seniority. This entails fostering a #culture where talent, irrespective of gender, is not just recognized and rewarded, but developed as well. PE firms must work diligently to ensure their promotional practices are unbiased and opportunities are equally accessible.
