"In the world of dementia, the only interest to be considered is the wellbeing, care and support of the person living with dementia." ~ Ethelle Lord, DM Bill Pemberton wrote "Clearly, it’s time for a better and more cost-effective way to provide caregiving to this growing and most vulnerable segment of our population. There is no single solution to effective dementia caregiving, but redesigning the entire system of dementia care does offer a dramatically more productive approach. That’s why ICA’s Transactional Dementia Intelligence (TDI) model promises to be the bellwether for a whole new era—the new gold standard—for addressing the coming health crisis we call dementia care." We’re proud to support Dementia Action Week. Dementia is a condition that affects many Australians, with around two-thirds of people with dementia living in the community. Despite this number, research shows that more than 60 per cent of people would rather not think about #dementia. People living with dementia experience stigma, discrimination, social isolation, loneliness and are less likely to seek help due to a lack of knowledge and understanding. Our #APD members empower people with dementia to eat well, stay nourished and be equipped with ways to enjoy their mealtime experience at all stages of dementia. We're committed to playing our part in supporting Dementia Australia in breaking down the stigma and building a dementia-friendly future for all Australians. There are so many ways dietitians can improve the lives of people living with dementia, and support families and carers to ensure they have optimal nutrition – at every meal time. By spreading awareness, we can all play a part in helping those living with dementia feel valued and uplifted.
