On behalf of the 10,000 Interns Foundation, we want to express our sincere gratitude for your engagement and participation in the pilot and two full cycles of the 10,000 Able Interns programme. As you know, the initiative aimed to create paid internship opportunities for Disabled students and graduates across the UK, modelled on our flagship programme 10,000 Black Interns. We are thrilled to report that the programme resulted in a resounding 300 internships! We're incredibly proud of the programme's achievements, but as we approach our Jubilee Year (achieving our original goal of providing 10,000 internships) and look forward to the next decade, we're taking a strategic pause to maximise our impact for the future. This means carefully evaluating the 10,000 Able Interns programme to understand its successes and how we can best support our Disabled interns and alumni going forwards. We understand you may have questions or areas in which you would like to collaborate further. Please don't hesitate to get in touch with us at general@10000internsfoundation.com

We're now at the point of halfway through the Inclusive Internship Programme! Many of the 30 internships that have been offered throughout our programme across different TCD services are in full swing, with the interns now having established themselves in their workplaces - and among the peer group of interns. During our weekly team meetings, several themes often come up that offer insights into the learning journeys the different interns are experiencing: ✨Communication in the workplace ✨Self-advocacy ✨Navigating fluctuating disability-related needs and accommodations Discussions are also beginning about the interns future plans more generally, especially as several interns are approaching the final year of their studies! We offer support for these topics through peer discussion and employment-based coaching. #inclusiveemployment #inclusiveinternshiptcd #disabilityacceptance

☀️ Securing a summer internship during your junior year is crucial as it often leads to full-time offers. 😔 However, recruitment timelines are moving earlier each year. 🍁 For instance, recruitment for the 2027 graduating class (2026 Summer Internships) begins next semester (Fall 2024). 👊 This means you need to start your preparation early to have a competitive edge. 💬 One crucial key is to network like your job depends on it (because it really does). 📲 Aim for at least 4 calls per week until Fall 2024. 📥 If you need guidance throughout the process, join the WSO Academy and we will help you get your offer >>> https://lnkd.in/gzuGm5m8

Last week, I participated in The Chronicle of Higher Education's event, "The Future of Academic Internships," which delved into the increasing emphasis on internships for higher-education students. The discussion highlighted how colleges are reshaping their services to better connect academic experiences with career outcomes. As this evolution takes shape, what implications arise from colleges extending internship opportunities to all students? The challenges that must be addressed are important in my role on the Practicum team here at Gillings. The presentation shed light on the struggles faced by students who encounter barriers in securing paid internships, often having to compromise their preferred work settings. https://lnkd.in/eXzNKMXt

Internships can contribute to a company’s BEE scorecard in several ways. One way is by providing opportunities for black individuals to gain valuable work experience and skills development, which can count towards the skills development element of the scorecard. 💡Companies can earn points by investing in the training and development of black employees and learners, including interns. 💡 An internship in terms of the B-BBEE learning program matrix is defined as “Institutional-based theoretical instruction as well as some practical learning with an employer or in a simulated work environment – formally assessed through the institution.” 💡The mode of instruction should be “Mixed mode delivery with Institutional instructions as well as supervised learning in an appropriate workplace or simulated work environment.” Institutions such as universities and colleges, schools, ABET providers, and the workplace combine to make this work. How many internships did you do? My 16 year old son will be doing 10-12 mini internships this school year. They are called "Schnupperwochen" and I'm in love with the idea. The Swiss school system has its flaws. One of which is they push kids very young to decide what they want to do as careers. But if you aren't sure at 16, they have this option: Half school, half internships. It should be amazing, and American school and businesses should consider the option. Maybe not as dramatic as a whole school year worth of them, but facilitating mini internships with high school students. It would benefit everyone. https://lnkd.in/g9y2pr8y

[2024] What % of international students landed summer internships? Internships are critical for international folks because it's almost always easier to get a return offer from an org you've interned with than to get a fresh offer. I've been seeing tons of "joining ABC as a summer intern" posts recently which is great (you may see a post from me, next Monday) and which made me think that oh well it's all good. However the numbers aren't all sunshine and rainbows. Summer interns have to register a credit with the university - which means it is possible to track the number of people who landed offers, and the data of international enrollment is the total population. At my university it came to be around ~ 23% (folks on my discord mentioned that USC and NCSU have similar rates) - definitely not more than 30%. So basically for every 10 students, 3 landed summer internships. Do not beat yourself up if you're not interning this summer. The game is messy, the pool is HUGE, and more often that not, landing that first internship is just wild luck.
