Instead it seems a lot of IT and security culture is based on bludgeoning them with it and telling them that they are the problem. Security is too complicated, threat actors are too complex, to just force a one-size-fits-all solution onto employees. The result is that more security conscious employees feel belittled, while the least security conscious still are not given the tools needed to improve. Inevitably a one-size-fits-all leads to one-size-fits-none.

A successful partnership between HR and IT/Cybersecurity teams is key to achieving a better Cyber Hygiene. According to the Cofense reports, a phishing email is meticulously designed to look like official communication from a company’s HR department. The email stresses the importance of compliance by a specific deadline, typically by the end of the day, fostering a sense of urgency and importance among recipients. The email contains a hyperlink with the heading, “HR COMPLIANCE SECTION FOR REVISED EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK.” Upon clicking the “PROCEED” button, you are redirected to a page that appears to be branded by Microsoft. This is where the phishing attack becomes more sophisticated.
