Please donate, sharing on behalf of my colleague: Hi, my name is Alyson and I am raising funds to create an animated video to educate children and young people on how to be active allies when they witness racism. We are encouraging children to be allies in schools, communities and to use their voices to speak out against racism. School-age children may experience fear or worry about what they have seen on the news, or they may be angry when hearing of mean acts happening to others. The animated video aims to them feel safe and let them know that one person’s actions are not true of all people. For example, one person in a position of power behaving badly does not mean all people in positions of power behave badly. The video will open up discussion, help children and young people to be active allies and to learn about the lived experience of racism and its impact on learning, health and outcomes. Let us work together to change the status quo, racism has no place in our schools and communities. https://gofund.me/2391a3a4

Justice is relative. Healing is relative. One size doesn’t fit all when it comes to justice and healing. Survivors deserve options, and restorative justice processes prioritize survivor-centered, flexible justice over the rigid framework of the criminal system. Our Restorative Justice Program is launching this Spring! Want to help make an impact? Joining the network with a $250 donation would help our pilot program lead two hours of a facilitated healing circle with those who have been harmed by domestic violence. 💚: https://buff.ly/3FHG53e

I'm over the moon to announce that Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs ("WLC") has received a $900,000 gift from MacKenzie Scott! This is the single largest donation in WLC’s 55-year-old history. Situated in the nation’s capital, WLC is on the cutting edge of #civilrights battles that affect communities across the country. Our key focus areas include #educationequity, #disabilityjustice, #fairhousing, #workersrights, #immigrantrights and criminal legal system reform. We celebrate MacKenzie Scott’s recognition of #civilrights litigation as an essential tool in the fight for #racialequity. With this transformational gift, we will deepen our partnerships with low-income communities of color to advance #racialjustice. Together, we will strive to dismantle systems of racial oppression and to pursue lasting change in the Washington, DC region and the nation. The gift coincides with the launch of our #strategicplanning process. WLC will leverage this gift to raise another $1 million dollars in 2024 to: * Make fair housing a reality by preserving affordable housing, fighting for safe habitable housing, and opening doors to housing for returning citizens * Promote economic justice by fighting for education equity for students with disabilities, winning back stolen wages for workers subjected to wage theft, protecting workers subjected to harassment or discrimination * Reform our criminal legal system by ending police brutality, halting abusive prison practices, promoting decarceration, and supporting reentry for returning citizens Whether we’re running #workersrights clinics or representing prisoners subjected to abuse or suing white supremacists for attacking a Black church – the WLC uses every tool in the toolbox to eradicate systemic racial oppression. Our mission is to create a more just, inclusive, and equitable society. And our mission has never felt more urgent – as we gear up for a monumental election year in 2024, for Washington, DC, and the nation.
Exciting News! The Washington Lawyers’ Committee receives a historic $900K gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott through Yield Giving. This monumental donation marks a new chapter in our 55-year history, empowering us to deepen our racial justice work across Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. Let's make lasting change together! I was disappointed this morning to wake up to a reminder that Fearless Fund is still amidst a lawsuit because they’ve provided grant opportunities to Black women. And it’s time to sound the alarm. 🚨📣 These types of lawsuits are incredibly dangerous, and we’ve already seen the aftermath of recent affirmative action decisions give companies and organizations the wiggle room to start to remove valuable programs and resources that could grow and advance black and brown communities. 🌱✨ Only 50% of companies survive after 5 years in business. That survival rate is 3% for Black women owned businesses given the same time frame. The reality is Black women owned businesses need additional resources to have a fighting chance for survival. 💸✊🏾 Watch the video below. Share with your community. And contribute financially, if you can, to any efforts surrounding this issue. Our work is far from done in creating equitable access for business owners. 💖 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gWxVVFev Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gMDiVdCY

Donating to support widows can have a profound impact for several reasons: 1. **Economic Stability**: Widows often face significant financial hardships, especially in regions where women have limited access to economic resources and opportunities. Your support can help them achieve economic stability. 2. **Education and Empowerment**: Donations can fund educational programs, vocational training, and other initiatives that empower widows to become self-sufficient and improve their quality of life. 3. **Mental and Emotional Support**: Losing a spouse can be emotionally devastating. Charities and organizations often provide counseling and community support, which can be crucial for mental well-being. 4. **Social Justice**: In many cultures, widows may face discrimination and social exclusion. Supporting them can help fight against these injustices and promote equality. 5. **Community Development**: Helping widows can have a ripple effect, benefiting their children and communities by fostering a more stable and inclusive environment. 6. **Humanitarian Compassion**: Donating is an act of compassion and solidarity, showing that you care about the well-being of those who are vulnerable and in need of support.
