Have you ever heard of FIKA? The concept of fika, a cherished Swedish tradition, was introduced to us by our Swedish colleague Kristof and Astrid Schubring, who spent the past several years at the University of Gothenburg. Fika is more than just a coffee break; it's a time to relax, connect, and enjoy each other's company over coffee and delicious pastries. Yesterday, we embraced this wonderful tradition. We gathered together, shared favorite kids books, found out that Michel aus Lönneberga is actually called Emil, and had some delicious cinnamon rolls baked by Stefanie Haberstock. ☕ 🍪 Thanks everybody for this slightly different coffee break at work! 🌟 #Fika #ResearchGroup #CoffeeBreak

Words that JancisRobinson.com dislikes... and I have to agree... Witnessing the wisdom of Jancis at Women In Wine LDN at Vintners Hall on Tuesday night was a beautifully grounding experience. She maintains her position as a 'parasite' on the wine industry, having never directly worked in it, but as such reaps the benefit of a wider lens with which to view it. A bug-bear she raised was the use of overly flamboyant language used in tasting notes and wine lexicon (did you know the brain can only register about 4 flavours at a time?) Show-offy lists of flavours that serve mostly as an English language exercise, not a helpful piece on wine. She uses her knowledge to make wine more understandable, not less. Encourages us in the trade to 'assertive, not strident' in our views and communication, and most importantly, to be kind. What a gal. Her top picks, all too frequently seen in wine reviews or tasting notes, are these the most poncy words in wine today..? - CURATED - I'm sorry, do you work in a museum? - PASSION - possibly one of the most overused words of the decade, in every discipline. So easy to roll out with no qualification. In the words of someone wiser than me, true 'passion' is ORIGIN, MISSION, & VISION aligned and delivered. - SALINE - an upcoming replacement for the perennially difficult 'mineral'? - LIMITED EDITION - like every other wine is unlimited? - 'GENTLY' PRESSED - puhleease.. As wine correspondent for the FT for over 30 years, she is certainly a woman who can take the long view when it comes to how we communicate about wine. I hope she keeps her sensible, informed, no-nonsense style as long as they are lucky enough to have her. In her own words, 'When they ask me to move, I'll move'. No one is gonna be asking you to move, Jancis. #livinglegend #jancisrobinson #vintnershall #womeninwine #womeninwineLDN #languagebarrier

Sweden's King Gustav III, a strong opponent of coffee, saw it as harmful to health. He allegedly conducted an experiment involving two condemned twins, giving one three pots of coffee daily and the other an equal amount of tea to show just how bad #coffee was. If true, Gustav III would have been one of many Swedish kings to disapprove of coffee. While coffee first arrived in Sweden during the late 1600s and was enjoyed as a trendy drink by the wealthy, by the mid 1700s, a royal edict was issued condemning its use. It was taxed heavily, then banned 5 separate times right until the 1823. How incredible then that Sweden fell in love with #coffee, becoming one of the most caffienated of countries, and creating a beautiful coffee ritual called the #fika. This history makes having a brand like #gevalia, its Swedish heritage and its royal warrant so much more meaningful. But what happened to the twin experiment? As per the story, Gustav III died first as the target of assassination. Then the tea drinking twin died at the age of 83, a very respectable age for that era. No one knows how long the coffee drinker lived as the doctor in charge of monitoring him died before him as well, and records were not kept. The authenticity of this story is disputed, but the story persists likely because the belief that coffee is a vice and tea is healthy persists. After all, coffee was stimulating and we have looked upon such foods and drinks with suspicion through history. With growing evidence around and rising interest in the health benefits of coffee, I look forward to people learning more about coffee but with a fact based lens rather than bias. It is so much more than daily caffienation. #wellness #coffee #fika # sweden https://lnkd.in/g5GGVmTc

Speciality Coffee Shop Manager | Passionate Coffee Brewer | Latte art expert | Home Coffee Brewer | Head Barista |Tourism & Hospitality Management | Food And Beverages Services
Curators Coffee Shop isn't just about serving up coffees ; it's about immersing you in the art of pour over brewing. Each visit is like a journey into the heart of coffee craftsmanship. At Curators, pour over isn't just a method; it's a way of life. The baristas approach it with an almost spiritual reverence, treating each pour like a brushstroke on a canvas. What struck me most was the simplicity of it all. From the elegant design of the dripper to the slow, deliberate pour, every step felt purposeful, almost like a form of meditation. But what truly blew me away was Curators' dedication to education. They don't just serve coffee; they educate, enlighten, and empower you to brew your own perfect cup at home. And let's not forget the sense of community that permeates the shop. It's a place where coffee lovers come together to share stories, swap tips, and celebrate their shared love for the bean. #coffeebeans #curators #coffee #pourover #meditation #journey #skills
