CECRA present at CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers ‘ #aftermarket conference in the panel discussion about « Technical evolution ahead- How to maintain a level playing field for vehicle repairs » Mark Nicklas European Commission : ECJ (European Court of Justice) went quite far in it’s decision #Belron #ATU. The EC will discuss possible solutions in the coming weeks with all stakeholders including type approval authorities which could address some of the problems within the framework of #858Regulation. Security is important but shouldn’t be used as an excuse to restrict competition in the aftermarket. Jan-Willem van der Linden CECRA -BOVAG : the right to repair legislation exists but we need enforcement. There is a need for sector specific legislation (SSL) as not everything can be covered via the adaptation of the 858. Laurianne Krid Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Region I : ECJ gave clear signals and FiA was hoping such a decision but a step more is needed via a SSL. 100% security doesn’t exist and cars can be hacked. Today, FIA Region I Director General, Laurianne Krid is joining a panel discussion at the CLEPA - European Association of Automotive Suppliers Aftermarket Conference to speak about maintaining a level-playing field for vehicle repairs. She is joined by Mark Nicklas from DG GROW at the European Commission, Jan-Willem van der Linden from CECRA and Jeremy Smith from Belron® . The recent ruling by the European Court of Justice on ATU and Carglass vs Fiat Chrysler shows that data flows on maintenance and repair needs to be free and readily accessible for all automotive aftermarket players. Krid emphasizes that this ruling shows the need for more than just quick fixes. Additional hurdles to access to data – in the form of authorisation gateways – ultimately harm consumers and lowers the probability to get their problems solved on the spot. ⚠️ Industry News: Mandatory Laden Brake Testing ⚠️ The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) previously announced that from January 1, 2023, goods vehicles and trailers undergoing yearly MOT exams must be properly laden with 65% weight—or risk losing their money! The DVSA will refuse to test any vehicles or trailers that are submitted for testing which are presented unladen unless they are exempt.
