Did You Notice Our New Project? We noticed that there are high numbers of teenagers around the world who are not getting what they need from school. No matter how hard schools try, they don't have the time to give the appropriate coaching young people need to transition from being creative learners dependent on teachers to the independent learners they need to be not only for school, university and work but for life. We're addressing this issue in the first of many projects to be run through the Academy of Learner Development. The first step was to open the project (see link below) to a small cohort of teenagers who are coached by our most experienced learner-development coaches. The second stage is to open the Academy by launching courses for parents and teachers who would like to use our approaches with teens (from ten years up) at home or in class. Another course will be opened for people who would like to coach with us. The fee for the few teens we coach is on the high side but the courses for parents, teachers and potential coaches will be low. The reason for that low course fee is that the project's vision is that every teenager should have access to and support from a learner-development coach. I’ve mentioned in previous posts that I am known for 1-1 teen coaching. My new coaching model is serving only around 20 students a year to make six figures. And it’s all through high touch, highly personalised 1-1 delivery, not groups. I don’t lead with group coaching. Not because it doesn’t work. I don’t personally believe the market is asking for it for it right now. Teens are in enough groups - schools, churches, sports and so on. That’s why parents often approach me for 1-1 services. There’s a huge need. Teens need to feel seen, heard and valued. To go at their own pace. In a safe, authentic space. Where we turn down the noise. Where boundaries are honoured. Coaching tips from 12 year olds... That might help you! Recently I've been coaching three different boys who are all 12 years old. Each child has their own challenges, and each coaching session is tailored to the individual. However, these are some insights that have helped me to help them (and might help you)… 1.     Heart With Ears ❤️ 👂 Making sure that you listen to understand and not to reply, get curious and look beneath the surface to find the cause and not the symptom of the challenge. Hearing someone is physiological, but listening is a psychological act. 2.     Rapport 🚀 That first meeting with a young person is vital. Sharing your own story and being vulnerable helps the child to connect with you on a deeper level. It is super important to find that one thing that the child is passionate about and use that as a metaphor/hook for the coaching. 3.     Motion Creates Emotion 🤸♂️ With online coaching it is important to create a sense of energy in the session. This is done by getting the boys moving around the room, using breathwork and mindfulness, to change their state and give them energy during the coaching call. 4.     Doodle 🎨 Each boy is a visual learner and bringing in creativity to the coaching sessions has been useful to embed challenging concepts. Getting the boys to draw, doodle and sketch their insights allows them to remember those ‘a-ha’ moments. Ultimately coaching children and students is about future proofing the next generation.
