Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (I&B) takes firm action against the Obscene Content on OTT Platforms . The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has taken decisive action against several OTT platforms for publishing obscene, vulgur and pornographic content. The content was determined to be prima facie in violation of Section 67 and 67 A of the IT Act, Section 292 of the IPC, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. Despite efforts by the Ministry of I&B to engage with OTT platforms and their regulatory bodies, the propagation of objectionable content persisted, necessitating this action. Upholding content standards and regulatory compliance within the OTT industry is crucial.

𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐓𝐓 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐲 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈 Industry associations, IBDF and IAMAI have teamed up once again urging to keep OTT players outside the regulatory ambit of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. They have written to the regulator arguing that there is no need to bring OTT channels under the regulatory ambit of a broadcasting system and thus be under TRAI’s regulation. These comments came as submissions to the consultation process for National Broadcasting Policy that TRAI is currently in the process of drafting. Thus an RF channel can have the sub-channels services. In addition, the adoptation of the new TV Broadcasting standard - ATSC3 that uses HEVC which compresses video more efficiently than MPEG2 which can enable 4K transmission.
