Rogers’ employee resource group Spectrum supports and celebrates 2SLGBTQ+ employees and allies. Spectrum member Andy Castaneda shares what 2SLGBTQ+ History Month means to them.
🏳🌈 It's 2SLGBTQ+ HISTORY MONTH! 🏳🌈 As Rogers continues to celebrate 2SLGBTQ+ History Month and highlight members of our Rogers Spectrum community, I’ve been asked to reflect on what this month means to me! Allow me to introduce myself – Hi! My name is Andy (he/they). I'm currently a Merchandise Auditor for Rogers in the MyPath program. I've been working for Rogers since I first arrived in Canada back in 2017 as an international student, and I continue to do so now as a soon-to-be Canadian citizen. 🌟 “Tell us how you reflect, celebrate and continue to be an ally for this community?!” 🌟 💜💙💚💛🧡❤🤍🤎🖤 ✦ What does 2SLGBTQ+ History Month mean to you? As someone from Hispanic heritage, Queer History Month is a time of not only reflection but empowerment and celebration. It serves as a reminder of the resilience and creativity of individuals who navigate multiple cultural identities, showcasing the unique challenges and triumphs they face. It’s a month to share stories, celebrate achievements, and foster understanding across our communities. Diversity within the 2SLGBTQ+ community strengthens our collective voice and advocacy for equality. ✦ How do you celebrate? Participate and volunteer in as many 2SLGBTQ+ events as possible and help facilitate that sense of community and belonging that we all deserve. I let my actions truly echo my advocacy, by offering that same support and understanding, pay it forward, and try to leave this world a little better than how I found it. ✦What impact has Spectrum had on your journey at Rogers? Spectrum has allowed me to gain the confidence to fully express myself and fearlessly live my authentic truth. I've found great individuals that have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth, fostering an inclusive environment where our diversity is our strength. ✦What do you enjoy most about working for Rogers? The company's commitment to diversity and inclusion. They've been loud with their support for living your truth, and this is true across all platforms I've been blessed enough to work in within the company; Rogers has made me feel welcome in every aspect of the word. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for the connections I've made in my professional journey. Happy Queer History Month! 🥳 💜💙💚💛🧡❤🤍🤎🖤 More information on Spectrum at Rogers and how to apply: 🌈 Spectrum is dedicated for anyone who identifies as two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, + (2SLGBTQ+) and Allies to connect, share, and engage. We exist to drive a culture of inclusion that removes barriers and encourages 2SLGBTQ+ employees to bring their whole selves to work by raising awareness and deliver education on 2SLGBTQ+ activities. Ready to build your career at Rogers and become a part of the Spectrum family?!
