Here we go – with the Country Managing Director at Accenture! 🔊 I had the opportunity to interview Hilary O'Meara, Country Managing Director at Accenture in Ireland. I would like to say a big thank you to Ms. O'Meara for taking the time and for inviting me to Accenture to do this interview. Curiosity 🤔 : She encourages those in the workforce to be open to continually learning. She advocates for an unyielding curiosity and commitment to personal growth, stating, "Continuously learning and developing is so important. People no matter what age or stage in life should have an appetite to learn, to be curious, because the world is changing so fast, that you risk being left behind if you don't." By cultivating these traits, she believes professionals will remain adaptable and relevant, and ready to navigate and succeed in the dynamic landscapes of modern careers. Camaraderie 🤝 : Hilary places significant emphasis on the centrality of interpersonal connections and nurturing talent in her leadership role, identifying herself as "very much a people person." She credits her tenure at Accenture to the deep bonds and sense of camaraderie she has fostered, stating, "I probably stayed in Accenture for 30 years because of the incredible people and talent I have the opportunity to work with." Her valuation of team dynamics is particularly evident as she discusses the workplace culture she aims to cultivate—one that supports young, skilled, and motivated employees. This focus on nurturing strong relationships not only characterises her approach to leadership but also highlights her dedication to fostering a supportive and vibrant workplace. Dealing with setbacks 💪 : She highlights the importance of addressing and learning from setbacks, viewing continuous learning as crucial for leadership and personal growth. She sees challenges and failures not merely as obstacles, but as opportunities to improve, in which she explains, "If I have a setback, I always talk about it. We'll always sit back and reflect as a team, wallow in the problem, so to speak, and come out of it stronger." This open discussion fosters a culture where setbacks catalyse future successes. Furthermore, she says to "reflect on the setback and learn from it. For every mistake you make, think about what could have been done differently." Her leadership is defined by a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation, guiding her team to not just recover, but to emerge stronger and more capable. The new Highered Career Destinations report, which surveyed over 3,800 students at 580 business schools, confirmed the popularity of the consulting industry among business school students, with nearly half–44%–of respondents wanting to enter this sector. The World's Largest Shadow Employer - Accenture | Logically Answered Accenture, a consulting firm, is the fourth largest employer in the world with 733,000 employees, serving over 75% of the Fortune Global 100 and 500. Its workforce is almost exclusively white-collar and works with Fortune 500 companies on their tech, strategy, and operations. Consultants at Accenture make a minimum of $90,000 and as much as $457,000. Accenture itself is worth nearly $200 billion and is the 62nd largest company in the world. Accenture has a rather shady legal registration and is registered in Ireland to avoid taxes. Accenture started as a division of Arthur Andersen that provided technical consulting services in the 1950s and 60s. In 1989, Arthur Andersen spun off its consulting wing as a new company called Andersen Consulting, but both companies were still managed by the same parent company: Andersen Worldwide Societe Cooperative. Andersen Consulting felt that Arthur Andersen was holding them back and had to hand over 15% of their profits to Arthur Andersen every year. After closing out a quarter of a century at Accenture, it's time to say... "let the next chapter begin!" After some personal time away, including incredible moments with family, friends, and self, and a few pretty cool and extreme adventures, I'm filled with fire in my belly and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. I wanted to take a few minutes to express my deepest appreciation to Accenture and the thousands of colleagues, clients, ecosystem partners, and civic and non-profit organizations I’ve had the privilege to work alongside those past 25+ years.  I can't name you all without the LinkedIn algorithm exploding, but I look forward to reconnecting with you ‘on the other side’!
