Back in April at our Access Social Mobility Summit, we unveiled a set of comprehensive recommendations aimed at advancing social mobility in Singapore. Apart from advocating for more data-driven insights, redefining success from the ground-up, and engaging in more youth-level interventions, a key recommendation was to encourage greater corporate sector involvement, as companies have huge social and human capital to catalyse large-scale impact. Against this backdrop, our team at Access has been leading an increasing number of lunch and learn sessions with corporate organisations to: ✅ Drive greater awareness around the topic of social mobility ✅ Explain why corporates can and should do more to engage with youths, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds ✅ Show how they can get involved to bring about more meaningful and lasting change Last week, our Senior Communications Manager Tiara Robyn Chew shared more about the state of social mobility in Singapore with 100 bp employees and engaged with them in crucial dialogue around this topic. We are glad that more companies are taking the issue of social mobility seriously, and exploring new opportunities to create a more diverse and inclusive work environment for their employees. Thank you BP for the opportunity to share more about our work, and thank you to our academic partner A/P Nathan Peng from Singapore Management University for joining the session. We are excited to continue spreading the word on social mobility and seeing how we can collectively shape a more equitable future for all. #AccessSingapore #LunchandLearn #SocialMobility

Those who know me well knows I contribute a fair bit to serving the common good. It will be disappointing if any organisation were to treat Corporate Social Responsibility as a marketing gimmick, aiming for good PR rather than genuine impact. CSR should never be a mere publicity stunt, especially in a forward-thinking nation like Singapore. True CSR is about embedding ethical, social, & environmental considerations into the very fabric of a company’s operations & strategy. In Singapore, where the government strongly promotes sustainable development & social responsibility, companies have an opportunity & a duty to lead by example. Authentic CSR drives employee engagement by creating a sense of purpose. Employees are more motivated & loyal when they see their company making real efforts to contribute positively to society. This translates to higher productivity & lower turnovers, which are critical for any business’s success in our competitive economy. From an economic standpoint, sincere CSR initiatives lead to innovation & sustainability. Companies that focus on reducing their environmental footprint often find new ways to cut costs & improve efficiency. Moreover, Singaporean consumers are increasingly discerning & prefer to support businesses that align with their values. Community development is another crucial aspect of true CSR. In Singapore, where the government & private sector work closely to address social issues, companies have the resources & influence to make significant contributions. Whether through education, healthcare, or environmental conservation, these efforts not only improve the quality of life but also foster economic resilience & growth. Genuine CSR is about creating lasting, meaningful change. It’s about making a real difference, NOT just appearing to do so. We need to move beyond superficial gestures & integrate responsible practices, aligning with our nation's vision for a sustainable & inclusive future. *this is my personal opinion #boredandalivesg #influencer #csr #sustainability #corporateresponsibility #charity #corporatesocialresponsibility #businessethics #socialimpact #communitydevelopment #community #accountability #singapore #greenfuture #marketing #communications #marketingcommunications #corporate #corporatecommunications

Exploring Ideal Migration Destinations for the Working Class: Balancing Cost and Quality of Life In today's globalized world, the working class is increasingly considering migration for better opportunities and improved quality of life. When evaluating potential destinations, two critical factors come to the forefront: cost of living and overall quality of life. One country that stands out for retirees and individuals seeking a balance between affordability and lifestyle is Malaysia. #CostEffectiveLiving Malaysia consistently ranks as one of the best countries for migration due to its affordable cost of living. With a diverse cultural tapestry, thriving urban centers, and a plethora of natural wonders, Malaysia provides an attractive option for those seeking financial stability without compromising on their lifestyle. #RetirementHaven Many retirees find Malaysia particularly enticing. The country offers a retiree-friendly visa program known as the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H), providing foreigners with long-term residency. This initiative, coupled with Malaysia's warm climate, rich cultural heritage, and modern amenities, makes it an ideal retirement destination. #WorkLifeBalance For those looking to migrate for work while maintaining an exceptional quality of life, Canada often emerges as a top choice. With its robust social welfare system, diverse job opportunities, and stunning natural landscapes, Canada strikes a balance between career advancement and personal well-being. #EuropeanElegance Germany's strong economy, efficient public services, and emphasis on work-life balance attract professionals seeking job opportunities and a high quality of life. The country's technological advancements, along with its rich history and cultural offerings, make it a compelling choice for the working class. #ScandinavianComfort Sweden, known for its social welfare model, consistently ranks high in global quality of life indices. The country offers free education, comprehensive healthcare, and a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, making it an attractive destination for those prioritizing holistic well-being. Considering these options, the ideal migration destination ultimately depends on individual preferences and priorities. Whether it's the vibrant cultures of Malaysia, the work-life balance of Canada, the technological haven of Germany, or the social welfare model of Sweden, each country has its unique appeal. By weighing factors such as cost, quality of life, and personal preferences, individuals can embark on a journey towards a brighter and more fulfilling future in their chosen migration haven. What destination would you choose, and what factors matter most to you? Share your thoughts! #MigrationChoices #QualityOfLife #GlobalOpportunities

Whole-of-society mindset change is needed to create equal and inclusive opportunities for all. This was one of the fundamental shifts tabled at the launch of the Forward SG Festival last week. SHE agrees wholeheartedly with this. Our entire mission to empower women and girls to benefit all of society, including men and boys, pivots on this, and is a mission that is becoming increasingly urgent in the face of the challenges we, as a society, face. SHE also agrees that no one person, organisation or government policy can effect this. Instead, all of us – whether employers, workers, students, mothers, fathers – must be the change we want to see. We have to rise up to the challenge to discuss and co-create the solutions for the problems we as a society face, and to do more for those who need a leg up. We, as individuals, have to accept that men are not the only ones responsible for bringing home the bacon, or that they have no responsibility for caregiving or household chores. The converse is true for women. Employers have to start seeing work and life as being in tandem, rather than in conflict. Therefore, having flexible work arrangements and a healthy work-life balance can allow families to thrive without sacrificing economic productivity. The government also needs to unveil more policies that will support this transformative vision for the future of Singapore. We look forward to seeing these in the time to come as we, as a society, collectively work towards a more equal and inclusive Singapore for all. #mindsetchange #genderequity #genderequality #SHEforSG #Empowerher

Combining curiosity and innovation to curate solutions that respond to our emerging risk climate | Views expressed are own
The anticipated Forward SG report is out. I enjoyed reading this and what struck me as incredibly positive is the sustainability theme ran all the way through it. Not only as it pertains to environmental sustainability but social sustainability also. With resilience underpinning the entire piece it is well worth a read as it sets fourth a road map towards a more equitable and thriving Singapore. The report recognises the disruption around us globally and the negative impacts our accelerating risk landscape imposes, in doing so the Government recognises that more must be done to provide ‘assurance for the people’. My favourite part is the report’s call for a mindset change and the redefinition of purpose. Being an advocate for core concepts such as ‘purpose beyond profit’ and being someone who reinforces to my own children that we must seek success in things outside of financial gains and academic achievement, I really felt inspired that concept of ‘mattering’ is being addressed by policy makers. This is incredibly important to the younger generation growing up in this dangerous world of ‘toxic achievement culture’. The other part that made me smile is the reference to Singapore as a Miracle. There is much humility in that statement. Views own. #singapore

Improving productivity in New Zealand is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted approach. Here are some potential solutions to improve productivity in New Zealand: Promoting international connections: New Zealand can improve its productivity by promoting international connections * This can be achieved by increasing trade and investment, as well as by encouraging foreign companies to invest in New Zealand. Removing barriers to fixed capital investment: Removing barriers to fixed capital investment, including taxation, can help boost productivity * Accessing benefits from agglomeration: Agglomeration refers to the benefits that arise from firms and workers locating close to each other. Encouraging firms to locate in clusters can help New Zealand access these benefits and improve productivity * Improving workforce wellbeing: Improving workforce wellbeing and happiness can lead to increased productivity * This can be achieved by improving the working environment, providing positive feedback and encouragement from management, and promoting work-life balance. Reducing hostility to investment: New Zealand's restrictions on incoming investment may make the country more hostile to investment, which can hinder worker productivity. Reducing these restrictions can help improve productivity * Investing in technology diffusion: Technology diffusion into local companies in New Zealand is poor, which hinders productivity growth * Investing in technology diffusion can help improve productivity. Improving productivity in New Zealand will require consistent and sustained efforts from both the government and the private sector.

🌟 Motivation through Community and Diversity 🌏 Self-Actualisation Monday! 🚀 Let's deep dive into what keeps me motivated while working on fulfilling my dreams. Maybe it works for you too, inspiration is everywhere. I moved to Singapore earlier this year. Every month, I travel back to Kuala Lumpur to touch base with the community I've built over 7 years under the brand Global Empowerment Hub. You might ask, "Why bother?" The answer lies in a beautiful secret: I thrive because they thrive. Seeing our members support each other in real life after 4 years of online connection warms my heart. From teaching computer skills to providing guidance on changing habits, our community has embraced growth together. Recently, our small Meetup exemplified the beauty of diversity, with attendees from 9 countries, no labels, and no judgment—just pure joy in learning about each other's cultures with open hearts. Building a community and organizing events isn't always an easy ride, but the essence lies in what matters most: the people. Concentrating on their growth and support has been the driving force behind my journey, and it has led me to witness the fulfillment of my purpose. So, I encourage you all to embrace community building, advocate for diversity, and let the joy of others' growth fuel your dreams. Together, we can reach our goals and make a positive impact worldwide. 🌈🌍 ✍️Reach out of you need help with planning, ideating and running community events. Stay tuned for the next Global Empowerment Summit in November.
