The most ubiquitious message today is of #internationalwomensday . In fact, all the social media is inundated with such messages and everyone seems quite Gung-Ho about this day. World is evolving fast, so are people. However gender discrimination still remains rife. Picture this: Katherine Switzer was the first woman to participate in the #bostonmarathon in 1967. She was jostled and manhandled by the race manager for being a woman but somehow out of strong will she finished the race. She went on to pave a new path for women which resulted in inclusion of women in the #marathon . Billie Jean King has always been a crusader for equal pay to women . She handed over a humiliating defeat to Bobby Riggs in the famour "Battle of Sexes" where the later thought female game was inferior and less interesting. Venus Williams fought racial discrimination and pay inequality through out her career. In 2007, she became not only the lowest seed to win the Wimbledon trophy ever but also the first woman in the history of #wimbledon to pocket the same prize money as her fellow male colleague Roger Federer. In 94 years of #oscar awards, women directors have repeatedly been snubbed by the cohorts of Uncle Sam. Only in 2010, Katherine Bigelow became the first woman to hold Uncel Sam in her hands and grace the dias. Ever since only two other have been able to achieve such feat. International Women's day is not merely sharing pleasantries and greeting to the women you know. Rather it's about recognition of women in each and every aspect of life and treating everyone as individuals without being too obsessed about the gender.
