The UTS Finance Department would like to congratulate Industry Adjunct Professor Michael Block and Dr Lorenzo Casavecchia on being included in the recently released UTS Business School’s list of top #teachers for the second half of 2023. This recognition was for their work in establishing and #teaching the subject 25625 UTS Student Managed Fund (https://lnkd.in/gJE4A-vJ) in Spring semester 2023. This is particularly noteworthy because this is the first time this subject has been taught and the first time Michael has been involved in teaching. This subject is part of the UTS Anchor Fund, a UTS student-managed #investment fund that provides hands-on money management experience for selected #students. The program aims to enrich students' #education through active participation in financial markets, offering a blend of advanced theoretical training and practical, internship-like experience in equity #research and asset management. It bridges the gap between academic insight and industry practice. "It's always your fault" 💭 is what was emphasised over and over again in Dr Tom Hutcheson's recent Negotiation Masterclass that I got the opportunity to join. This didn't mean to be self-critical or negative, but rather a reality check, a reminder to always reflect on what I have done and identify areas for improvement, in another word, things that I would do differently if I were to encounter the same negotiation context. Prior to joining, I thought I was a complete newbie to the art of negotiation. Little did I know that I have been practising negotiation all along, when I coordinate travel plans for a big friend group, balance different working styles and individual priorities for group projects at university or negotiate job offers. Throughout this intensive 2-day workshop, we deep dived into the theories of negotiation such as Thomas-Kilmann negotiation styles, value creation and value claiming, finding my BATNA and reserve point, applying negotiation skills into a cross-cultural context and more. A wide range of practical exercises allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and implement the knowledge I just learned into diverse real-life contexts.
