Carl will be joined by Professor Verity Firth, the inaugural Vice-President Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement at UNSW to discuss the topic and its implications for our society. 💡 If you’re interested you can join us for a thought-provoking discussion using the details below: 📅 Saturday 5th April ⏰ 5:00 pm for 5:30 pm 📍 Gleebooks - 49 Glebe Point Road, Glebe Book your ticket today: https://lnkd.in/gw4EAUtG #EconomicInequality #Billionaires #ThoughtLeadership #SocialImpact

🙌 🏏 Congratulations to UTS Alumni Todd Greenberg, who this month started his new role as CEO of Cricket Australia. Greenberg completed his Masters in Sport Management at University of Technology Sydney in 1997, while playing for 10 seasons as a top-order batter for Randwick CC between 1987 and 1997. Since then, he’s successfully traversed the path from athlete to sports manager. Now regarded as one of Australia’s leading sports administrators, he’s been CEO of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs NRL club and the National Rugby League (NRL), as well as holding an executive role at Accor Stadium, home of the Sydney Olympics. Billionaire entrepreneurs like Richard White of WiseTech Global are known for their bold entrepreneurial spirit and innovative vision. However, their significant control can sometimes lead to fewer checks and balances. Lecturer Claire Wright was featured in The Conversation Australia + NZ this week for using White as an example highlighting the unique challenges of ensuring proper governance when a charismatic founder retains substantial influence over their company but is mired by a series of serious allegations. Ever wondered where a passion for sport can take you? ⚽ 🎾 🏀 Meet Corey Cutrupi, a PhD student at UTS Business School. Corey’s inspiring journey began by playing a multitude of sports as a child, including football, athletics, basketball, AFL, rugby league, and softball. He then ventured into coaching and strength and conditioning. Corey’s passion has evolved into a focus on Sports Business, where he investigates the inner workings of sports organisations. He has held positions at Tennis Australia and Football NSW, gaining valuable experience along the way. Now, Corey teaches Sports Business and travels to present his research at conferences. His PhD research explores how major events in women’s football can drive long-term fan engagement, a timely topic given the excitement generated by the #Matildas' strong performance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia. 📢 New research released! Professor Anne Summers reveals the profound economic impact of domestic violence on women, especially when it comes to education and employment opportunities. The findings point to the growing prevalence of men trying to exert economic control over their partners. Essential to this has been the use of surveillance, especially stalking of women, designed to intimidate and further control. 🔍 In 2021–22, the employment rate for women who had experienced partner violence or abuse (physical, sexual, emotional or economic) was 5.3% lower than the employment rates for women who had never experienced violence. 🔍 The education gap is a new and truly shocking finding that young women who experience domestic violence fail to complete their university degrees. For young women, by the time they are 27, there is a nearly 15% gap in the rates of university degree attainment between victim-survivors and other women.
