ACH believes in the power of family and the strength within every woman. With 1 in 3 women affected by domestic violence in Tarrant County, programs like Families Together are crucial. Together, we provide safe havens and healing spaces for single mothers and their children, helping them rebuild their lives after experiencing homelessness due to intimate partner domestic violence. Let's stand together to break the cycle and empower these families towards independence and stability. #FamiliesTogether #EndDomesticViolence

The President has recognized this week as Community Violence Awareness Week (Feb. 5-Feb. 9). What is Community Violence? According to the CDC, "Community violence happens between unrelated individuals, who may or may not know each other, generally outside the home. Examples include assaults or fights among groups and shootings in public places, such as schools and on the streets. Research indicates that youth and young adults (ages 10-34), particularly those in communities of color, are disproportionately impacted." I say Community Violence, is the subsequent result of domestic and intimate partner violence. It's the result of poverty. It's the result of racism. If we are not addressing intimate partner and domestic violence alongside community violence, we are doing a disservice to the community members impacted by it all. #intimatepartnerviolence #domesticviolence #domesticviolenceawareness #communityviolence #gunviolence

Nearly all survivors of domestic violence also experience economic abuse, where financial dependence is wielded as a means of control (1). Home is more than a physical place -- it's a sense of belonging and safety. Survivors often face returning to an abusive home/relationship or becoming homeless in an attempt to flee. Home Free aids survivors in gaining self-sufficiency, reducing the risk of homelessness. Relocation assistance, rental assistance, long-term one-on-one advocacy, and more are available. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic or sexual abuse, visit our resources page or call our hotline Monday - Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.: (503) 771-5503 / Toll Free (888) 771-5503 voaor.org/home-free (1: NCADV Economic and Financial Abuse Factsheet) #domesticviolenceawarenessmonth #worldhomelessday #pdx #pdxresources #portland #homelessness

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. We know there is a common link between domestic and family violence (DFV) and child protection. Children and adolescents who are exposed to DFV will often experience learning and behaviour difficulties, are at a higher risk of homelessness, are more likely to have poorer physical health outcomes and are likely to experience trauma (AIFS). As a peak in the child protection space, we have a responsibility to speak out against domestic violence to keep women and children in the community safe. Fams has partnered with Domestic Violence NSW to host a sector conversation on 6th December to discuss the ripple effect on families impacted by domestic and family violence. Click here to sign up - https://ow.ly/xa1250QazwK We will join many other organisations by posting educational and awareness information about DFV across the 16 days of activism. #16days16ways #16daysofactivism #safechildren #strongfamilies #supportivecommunities

🚨Day 8/10 for posting everyday day to raise awareness for women and children experiencing domestic violence and homelessness. 🚨 Did you know? In New South Wales, there are approx. 2,500 reports of domestic violence to the police EVERY MONTH. What's even more concerning is that these numbers likely represent only 40% of actual incidents due to underreporting. It's crucial that we continue raising awareness, supporting survivors, and working towards a society free of violence. Let's not stay silent! 📢 If you or someone you know is affected, there is help available. #BreakTheSilence #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SpeakUp Source: NSW Domestic Violence Statistics & NCOSS, 2020.

Our current historic housing shortage means more people are staying in abusive relationships...not by choice, but because in some situations there is no housing available, at any price. In Idaho, we can leverage our support of local shelter and supportive service providers through the annual 'Avenues for Hope Housing Challenge.' Donations can be designated for your own community, specific program or shelter types, or a demographic. Give what you can to help provide an escape hatch for someone; you'll both sleep better. Nonprofits in Idaho need to register by next Monday, November 6th. Visit https://lnkd.in/bWudDMs to learn more or to register your housing or shelter program.
