Wonsik Cho, SAMSUNG E&A it was an honour to be part of the panel discussion on “New Carbon Technologies: Maximizing Efficiency, Scale, and Reduction of Emissions” alongside: Claude Letourneau, Svante Inchol Park, LOTTE chemical Khavinet Lourvanji from SCGC - SCG Chemicals Okamoto Masahide, Marubeni Corporation A very insightful panel about the strategies required to reshape the future of hard-to-abate industries. Carbon Clean's technology is targeting both a CapEx and OpEx reduction through its innovative use of rotating packed beds (RPBs) and its proprietary solvent. The key focus to making our technology more cost-effective is scaling. On this #EarthDay, let us look at how we promote environmental sustainability across our different business locations. ☀ At our Corporate HQ in Singapore, we have successfully installed a total of over 1,200 solar panels with a peak power of 698 kWp across our buildings as part of our Net Zero 2035 goal 🤝 In 2023, we were proud to host our fellow members of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) at our Munich office for a deep discussion on the ambitions and targets of Scope 2 emissions, as well as continuing with the One Young World programme ♻ As part of our project to eliminate single-use plastics, our Weymouth team has managed to convert 94% of our outbound packing materials to recycled or recyclable materials, while regularly participating in community environmental projects 💡 Our Environmental Award Campaign encourages our employees in China to share their thoughts on energy reduction opportunities based on daily experiences and observations. 🌍 Exciting news from Voltfang! 🚀 Reflecting on the past 4 years of building Voltfang, one of the proudest moments was seeing Anna Maria Jonas showing me the results of our #Impact report. It's a testament to our commitment to measuring our impact and ensuring that our actions contribute positively to society. Starting from a deep-rooted intrinsic motivation to make a meaningful difference, today we can proudly say that we're making significant strides, with even greater plans for the future! In our recently released Impact report, we showcase our vision for Voltfang, highlighting our achievement in nearly halving our CO2 emissions and sourcing 93% of our resources from German or European partners. This is crucial, especially considering our current heavy reliance on China for battery materials. Establishing a #European production base is essential for Europe's strategic competitiveness. Building and maintaining a complete value chain in Germany, encompassing material extraction, production, and recycling, is imperative. Through #reuse and #recycling, we not only reduce CO2 emissions but also decrease dependence on third countries, strengthening the region and ensuring stable supply chains, even in times of crisis. At Voltfang, we didn't measure our impact out of obligation; we did it because we aspire to set new standards. We believe that companies should be valued not only for their profitability but also for their contributions to the well-being of our planet. The workshop, dedicated to sustainability, brought together projects under the BATTERY 2030+ framework for a collaborative discussion. 🌐 Key Highlights: - Kristina Edström and Simon Perraud from BATTERY 2030+ presented the mission of this large-scale research initiative for future battery technologies. - Claude CHANSON from RECHARGE – European Association of the Advanced Rechargeable & Lithium Batteries Value Chain shared insights on "Battery Sustainability in the EU Regulation: What’s in it for the research?" - Eliana Quartarone from the Batteries Europe provided a comprehensive overview of "Sustainability key challenges across the European battery value chain: an overviewfrom the Batteries Europe/Batt4EU Task force." - Marcel Meeus and Philippe JACQUES from EMIRI presented on "Applying the SSbD framework to batteries." 💡This moment provided a unique opportunity for the introduction of new projects.
