Welcoming a new Occupational Health client ❤️ 'IF' an Occupational Health Assessment is carried out correctly, it can protect your business from... → the employment tribunal, → help you make the right lawful reasonable adjustments → help your employee return to work with a positive outlook What is an Occupational Health Assessment? An Occupational Health Assessment is a medical examination performed by an Occupational Health Assessor. Its main aim is to advise employers on the employee's health and make recommendations on what adjustments could be considered to ensure a safe/healthy working environment for that employee. Complex Assessment: If your employee has a diagnosed medical condition and taking prescribed medications with ongoing treatments. This is classed as a 'complex assessment'. Epilepsy, Narcolepsy, Diabetic, Menopause etc... Standard Assessment: If your employee hasn't got a diagnosed medical condition, not taking any medication but their absenteeism due to sickness or any other unknown reason is high Our process: • complete the assessment form with consent • help the employee understand the OH process • collect written medical evidence of the condition • arrange a mutual time with the employee for their assessment • compile an in-depth assessment report with recommendations on reasonable adjustments • give the right, simple and lawful guidance to the employer on the outcome of the assessment • Mitigation meeting with all parties if required... You can also read ACAS guidelines on the assessment process: https://lnkd.in/eAz6swrD If your business needs help with the right Occupational Health Assessment, then let's have a chat today! Should you obtain a GP or Specialist medical report? As an occupational health advisor, I’m often asked whether it’s necessary to request a medical report from an employee’s GP or Specialist before an occupational health assessment. Here is what I advise: Before requesting a GP or Specialist report, consider letting the occupational health assessment take place first. This allows the occupational health advisor to determine if such a report is actually needed. Plus, we can ask more specific and relevant questions based on the assessment, ensuring we get the most useful information. The key benefits are: Targeted questions: Post-assessment, we can request more pertinent information that truly impacts the workplace situation. Professional insight: GPs and Specialists often provide more detailed information to fellow health professionals, which might not be as comprehensive in reports directed to employers. Cost-effectiveness: these reports can be expensive and may not add value if the occupational health assessment provides sufficient information. Timely advice: avoid unnecessary delays that could hinder the employee’s return to work or further complicate the case. In many cases, an additional report isn't necessary, and the occupational health professional can offer reliable guidance based on their knowledge of the condition and work environment. 📞 Need advice? If you’re dealing with an absence-related case and are unsure about requesting a GP or Specialist report, feel free to reach out #OccupationalHealth #EmployeeWellbeing #WorkplaceHealth
