Thanks to a local supporter Acorns Makaton Choir has some brand new threads! Thank you to Regent Distributions Ltd who've kindly gifted some branded shirts to Acorns, so that our Makaton Choir can perform in style 🎻🎼 Makaton is a simplified form of sign language that's frequently used at Acorns to aid with communication. It helps our nurses understand a child's wants and needs when vocalisation isn't possible, and with how important it is to caring for many children it's wonderful to be able to share it with others through choir 😇

Yesterday, Sally met with music therapist Cate from DPV Health to learn more about the benefits and outcomes for children in DPV’s music therapy and art therapy programs. Cate shared examples of children who have not engaged in any other form of therapy until they started with music and art. Using their extensive training, music and art therapists support a child in all areas of development; communication, emotional regulation, cognition and motor skills – not just music and art. Cate talked about children making progress in all areas of development as a result of being in these programs. ECIA VIC/TAS urges the NDIS to reconsider the changes made to the funding of music and art therapy, given the positive outcomes that are possible for children accessing these therapies. #ndis #musictherapy #arttherapy #earlychildhood #ecis #eci #eciavictas #dpvhealth #earlychildhoodintervention #developmentaldifferences Australian Music Therapy Association ANZACATA

Songs and movies play a significant role in building confidence in children. Singing along to their favorite songs or watching movies with positive messages can inspire and uplift them. These activities provide opportunities for self-expression and help them connect with emotions and ideas. Incorporate music and movies into their routine to foster a fun and supportive environment for confidence building. #ChildDevelopment #ConfidenceBuilding #MusicAndMovies #ParentingTips #CreativeLearning #ChildhoodSuccess #CSR

💁 Single Parents and Support Systems:- 👉 The Role of Community and Family 🤷 Single parenthood can be a challenging journey, often filled with unique struggles and responsibilities. 💁 But one critical aspect that can ease this journey is a strong support system. 💁 A robust network of support can provide emotional sustenance, practical assistance, and a sense of community for single parents. 1️⃣ The Role of Family:- 🔸Family, by blood or by choice, often serves as the first line of support for many single parents. 🔸They provide not only emotional support but also practical help in various forms – from babysitting duties to financial aid. 🔸Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and siblings can step in to fill roles and provide a sense of continuity and stability for the children. 🔸For instance, grandparents can contribute significantly by spending quality time with grandchildren, sharing their wisdom, and providing a comforting presence. 🔸Siblings and cousins can offer companionship to the children, helping them feel less isolated. 🔸Moreover, family members can also provide emotional support to the single parent, offering a listening ear, advice, and encouragement during challenging times. 2️⃣ The Role of Community:- 🔸Beyond immediate family members, the wider community also plays a pivotal role in supporting single parents. 🔸This community can encompass friends, neighbors, local organizations, faith groups, schools, and even online communities. 🔸Friends and neighbors can offer practical assistance, such as playtime, childcare, or meal sharing. 🔸These communities can provide spiritual support, along with a sense of belonging and community. 🔸These communities can be invaluable resources, connecting single parents with others going through similar experiences, and facilitating the sharing of advice, experiences, and support. 🔅 The Power of a Strong Support System:- ✔️ A strong support system can have a profound impact on the well-being of single parents and their children. ✔️ It can help alleviate stress, combat feelings of loneliness, provide practical assistance, and foster a sense of belonging. ✔️ More importantly, this network of support can make single parents feel seen, heard, and valued, reinforcing the fact that they are not alone in their journey. 🤗 The role of family and community in supporting single parents cannot be overstated. 😊 These networks of support serve as pillars of strength, offering single parents the help and reassurance they need to navigate their unique path. 🫴 As a society, it is essential to recognize and appreciate these support systems, ensuring they continue to thrive and grow, providing aid to those who need it most. #singleparentfamilies #differentsupportsystems #thepoweroffamilysupportsystems #thepowerofsingleparentcommuties #thepowerofhavingfriendsasfamily #singleparentsofvadodara

🎤 Play is a gateway of communication for children. Play allows them to share their thoughts and feelings, and to be active participants in their own care and treatment. When adults make the effort to communicate with them in child-centred ways, children have a great capacity to understand and appreciate what is happening to them. 💚 We don't play about when it comes to play, you can read more about the fantastic benefits of play in our Play Policy: https://ow.ly/Ew1W50SR0go

BASW England Children and Families Seminar: Working with Deaf Families This is a topic I care deeply about. In my experience, there is a dearth of knowledge among child and family social workers about Deaf culture. As a profession, we need to do more to raise awareness of Deaf culture and the issues facing Deaf families. This seminar will serve as an introduction to some of these considerations. FREE for BASW members. https://lnkd.in/e_2weVFs

The only positive I can see coming out of the changes to NDIS funding that is impacting people’s access to services such as Creative/Art Therapists, Music Therapist, Play Therapists is the conversation it is raising in the media. The sharing of real life stories from people who have seen and experienced first hand the positive benefits and impacts of these modalities. Let’s hope those with decision making power actually listen to those people using the services, read the research papers (yes the ‘evidence’ is out there and growing) and acknowledge that these roles have been part of the health sector (in hospitals, rehabilitation and MH support services for many, many years). NDIS has allowed them to be accessed to improve peoples health, wellbeing, communication and connection in the broader community. Especially children and young people who have found a way to express themselves when words cannot. Let’s just hope this current ‘5 steps’ backward, actually raises awareness of these professions and provides us with the run up to actually propel us forward. #arttherapy #creativetherapy #musictherapy #playtherapy #NDIS https://lnkd.in/g4in6y7H
