We all leave our homes in the morning with the intention of returning safely to our families at the end of the day. For 39 construction professionals in British Columbia last year, that did not happen. On this National Day of Mourning, we remember and honour those who have lost their lives to workplace injury or illness, while renewing our commitment to creating safer workplaces. According to WorkSafeBC, 175 BC workers died from a workplace injury or disease in 2023, with 93 a result of occupational disease. At Acres, preventing injuries is a crucial aspect of our business says HSE Manager, Joel Moore. “Before engaging in a task, taking the time to pause and think about the potential negative outcomes and their impact they would have on you as a worker is crucial in injury prevention. The decisions you make today may not impact you in the short term, but they certainly may have negative consequences for you in the long term. We all need to keep in mind that no job is worth risking our lives for and our health and wellbeing not only impacts us directly, but all the people in our lives. All workers should expect that their workplaces have processes in place to ensure their safety and the safety of their coworkers, as we all want to go home to our families.” Today, on April 28th, let's all take the time to pause, reflect, remember, and renew our commitment to creating safe and healthy workplaces. #dayofmourning #workplacesafety #constructionsafety #worksafeculture #safetyculture

We’re backing calls for tighter health and safety measures following an independent report revealing 138 workplace fatalities in the past year. The Health and Safety Executive's report highlights a concerning spike in construction industry deaths, rising from four to 51. Ruth Wilkinson from the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health emphasises the urgent need for action, particularly in high-risk industries. At Thompsons, we echo this call and remain committed to advocating for workers' rights and safety. Phillip Liptrot, our head of personal injury, states: "The recent rise in workplace fatalities underscores a critical need for improved safety measures. Every worker deserves a safe working environment free from injury or death." If you or someone you know has been affected by a workplace accident, our team is here to help: https://bit.ly/4czdHin #WorkplaceSafety #HealthAndSafety #WorkersRights #ConstructionSafety

The Department of Labor is taking a critical step to address workplace heat dangers and advance a proposed rule aimed at reducing health risks for U.S. workers in both outdoor and indoor settings. On April 24, 2024, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) presented the initial regulatory framework of the draft rule at a meeting of the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health. The committee unanimously recommended OSHA to swiftly proceed with the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, marking significant progress in this vital area of worker safety. As OSHA moves forward, it will actively engage stakeholders and the public to gather input and refine the rule to effectively safeguard workers from heat-related risks. Meanwhile, OSHA remains committed to its existing outreach and enforcement efforts, educating employers and workers while holding businesses accountable under the Occupational Safety and Health Act. With record-breaking temperatures impacting our nation, the risks of on-the-job heat exposure are heightened, particularly during the summer months. Sadly, many heat-related illnesses and fatalities are preventable. Let's work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our workforce. For more information or assistance on workplace heat safety, feel free to DM me. Your safety is our priority! ☀️💼 #WorkplaceSafety #WorkerHealth #HeatSafety

With all of the storms in Texas, we've had somewhat of a reprieve from the heat, but we know those dog-days are on the way. ☀ Did you know - almost half of heat-related deaths occur on a worker's very first day on the job? Did you know - over 70 percent of heat related deaths occur during a worker's first week? Contractors - With summer temps right around the corner, now is a good time to review OSHA's guidance for protecting new and unacclimatized workers from heat exposure: https://lnkd.in/gTtPZsQx. #protectyourworkforce #construction #osha #constructionsafety

🔍 This week, at the request of our client, we're delving into a critical aspect of workplace safety: Fall Protection. In New Zealand, falls from height remain a significant contributor to workplace fatalities. This underscores the vital importance of robust safety regulations and their strict enforcement. Despite these measures, tragic accidents unfortunately still occur, prompting thorough investigations by authorities to identify root causes and prevent similar incidents in the future. However, it's heartening to note that efforts to learn from these workplace fatalities are driving continuous improvement in safety practices. By fostering safer work environments and reducing the risk of future tragedies, we're making strides toward ensuring the well-being of workers nationwide. Let's keep the conversation going and continue prioritizing safety in all aspects of our work. Together, we can create safer and healthier workplaces for everyone. #WorkplaceSafety #FallProtection #SafetyFirst 🛠️👷♂️👷♀️
