Centre for Blue Governance in Brussels 🇪🇺🌊🚢🪸🐠 Co-design is essential to develop knowledge and solutions for sustainable development. Last week, our researchers, Carolijn van Noort Sun Cole Seeberg Dyremose, Troels Jacob Hegland and Nelson F. Coelho co-organized a stakeholder meeting in Brussels, together with the PERMAGOV EU team. They solicited the insights and experiences from stakeholders, knowledgeable of Marine Energy ⚡️Maritime Transport 🚢 Marine Life 🐟and Marine Litter 🚮 The stakeholder meeting allowed us to discuss the current status of marine governance in the EU, and barriers to implementing the EU Green Deal. We look forward to building on this information and to develop pathways to improve the performance of marine governance 🤝

Particular #pastoralism which plays an important role for #biodiversity and contribution to cross-border economic relations is affected. Our reginonal #droughtresilience efforts (GIZ SCIDA III Project) in partnership with #IGAD and #IDDRSI play an important role in increasing the regions resilience capacity. 🎉 We have exciting news to share! IRC was a collaborating organization and our Executive Director, George D. Gann, CERP, was a contributing author on the recently published UN Decade Standards of Practice for Ecosystem Restoration. The United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 recognizes the critical need to protect, conserve and reverse degradation of our world’s native and productive ecosystems and this publication is a momentous step forward for ecosystem recovery. The concept of ecosystem restoration includes ecological restoration as well as other restorative activities such as reduction of societal impacts, improving ecosystem management, and repairing ecosystem functions and services. We are excited to unveil a new suite of projects from our 2023 Request for Proposals, aimed at integrating Indigenous Knowledge into ocean and coastal decision-making. Historically, the traditional knowledge of Indigenous Peoples has been overlooked, impeding effective conservation and restoration of marine ecosystems. These projects seek to bridge this gap, focusing on the identification, analysis, and communication of Indigenous Knowledge where culturally appropriate. By fostering innovative engagement approaches, we aim to enhance marine ecosystem management through a collaborative and respectful inclusion of Indigenous traditions and wisdom. https://lnkd.in/g3Amde72

The #ScottCawley-sponsored Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) conference this July 16 will share examples of #GreenFinance initiatives in the UK and Ireland, evaluate nature-related financial mechanisms, and highlight opportunities for ecologists and environmental managers to advise on and access #funding to support nature’s recovery. Significant new funding is required to halt and reverse the decline of nature in the UK and Ireland - public money alone will not be enough. There is an appetite amongst private funders to invest in green initiatives but the rapid development of the green finance market has lead to concerns over corporate #greenwashing along with a confusing array of financial mechanisms. The need to demonstrate a genuine return has prompted a focus on improving methods of measuring, reporting, and verifying the impact of investments. 💡🌎 #Innovation | The Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance has announced its historic 10th cohort, the largest one to date. The Lab will support ideas from five regional programs (East and Southern Africa, Brazil, India, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Philippines). They will receive seven months of stress testing and guidance from experts within the Lab’s extensive network of public and private investors. 🌱 The three global thematic areas are sustainable agriculture and food systems, high-integrity forests, and climate adaptation. Sustana Cooling Partners and Climake finalists from India regional meet were selected amongst the winning ideas in Amsterdam where Lab members and observers gathered to select the Lab’s largest cohort to date. Sustana Cooling Partners is an impact investment firm focused on cooling technology innovation. Cooling demand is growing exponentially in global markets. Climake is a platform for climate tech startups to access markets and access equity and asset finance.
