From August 1st, 2024, Parent’s Leave will be extended 📅 Currently providing for seven weeks of leave, Parents Leave will now be extended to 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬 for parents of children born or adopted on or after August 1st, 2024. The additional two weeks of Parent’s Leave will also apply to parents of children who are under the age of two by August 2024, or adoptive children who have been placed with their parents for less than two years by August 2024. This means that parents who have already taken seven weeks of Leave before August 2024 will be entitled to an additional two weeks if their child has not yet reached the age of two. This extension aims to offer more flexibility for eligible parents to care for their children during these crucial early years. Employees may also qualify for Parent’s Benefit during Parent’s Leave which provides financial support allowing them to take the time off work. Is your organisation ready for this change? 📝 Here is what you need to do: ✔Revise your company handbook and policy documents ✔Clearly notify all employees about this update explaining the details Get in touch with us today to make sure your policies are compliant and your team is supported 🤝 https://lnkd.in/dGDDsFmv #ParentsLeave #WorkLifeBalance #EmploymentLaw #HRConsultancy

That's great news for families! The next important step is ensuring that companies allow parents to take this time as needed, rather than requiring them to take it all at once. Flexibility can make a big difference in balancing work and family life. How do you think this change will impact families in your community?

From Thursday August 1st, in accordance with S.I. No. 300/2024 parents can avail of nine weeks paid Parent’s Leave and Benefit during the first two years of a child’s life, or in the case of adoption, within two years of the placement of the child with the family. The leave will also apply retrospectively to parents who have taken seven weeks’ Parent’s Leave prior to August 2024 (i.e. they will now have an entitlement to an additional two weeks) if their child had not reached the age of two when the leave is taken (in the case of an adopted child it is still within two years of the date of placement of the child when the leave is taken). #Ibec members can access our updated sample policy and related documents on our HRM Guide here: https://lnkd.in/ekawt-Js #ParentsLeave #HR #EmploymentRights Linda Reid, Magda Kozub, Aoife McFadden, Muireann McEnery, Sophie Crosbie

As a working mom, I often reflect on the many years I've spent trying to balance the demands of parenting while attempting to keep my professional life afloat. It has never felt easy or fluid. Most of the time, I feel flustered and rushed, pulled in too many directions, totally overwhelmed, and plagued with the feeling I'm not doing any of it very well. Do I ever wonder if being a working mom is/was worth it? Every single day, I do. But, I'm privileged. I have the good fortune of being in a position that allows me to ponder this question, and then chart my own course based on what I believe is best for my family. Many American families don't have this luxury. Their economic survival, and their ability to house and feed their children, is dependent on the income of a working mom. Yet, arguably, these are the most underserved and undervalued segment of our population. Private and public investments in maternal well-being and mortality are also embarrassingly insufficient. Unlike nearly every other country in the world, they are forced to return to work within weeks of giving birth. Only to then contend with unchecked increases in childcare costs (the AVERAGE cost of infant childcare in 2024 is $15,000 a year). A healthy and happy country is a reflection (and result) of how well a society supports and cares for their mothers. Not just on the Hall ark-designated days, like today, but on every single day of her parenting journey (especially the first 5 years!). If you're still reading, and nodding, please consider acknowledging Mother's Day by using the link below to urge congress to support Paid Leave for All #paidleaveforall #passpaidleave A huge thank you to my own employer, Willow Innovations, Inc., for actively supporting and advocating for all moms 💕 , including our community of customers and an amazing team of working parents.

Oregon’s Paid Leave Oregon (PLO) bill, which took effect July 1, has dramatically altered the landscape of the state’s leave laws. The PLO, which will interplay with the Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA), provides up to 12 weeks of paid leave: ✅ Following childbirth; ✅ For child bonding purposes (regardless if the child was birthed, adopted, or placed via foster care); ✅ To care for a family member with a serious health condition; ✅ For self-care following a serious health condition; and ✅ To obtain assistance following a sexual assault, domestic violence, harassment, bias crimes, or stalking. The program’s success has been touted by Oregon.gov, which states, since last September, more than $500 million dollars in PLO benefits have been paid out to 73,000 people. Are you privy to paid leave in this manner? Only about 27% of Americans working in the private sector have access to paid family leave when they welcome a new child, according to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Women’s Bureau. How much leave time is allowed in your state? Is this a sufficient amount? #OregonPaidLeave #PaidLeaveOregon #PLOBill #OregonFamilyLeaveAct #PaidFamilyLeave #FamilyLeavePolicy

Why is maternity pay so f*cked in the UK? Well Harriet M. and I have a few ideas, which is why we created Nugget Savings After spending a year obsessively trying to get to the bottom of the problem with parental leave in the UK By talking to parents, building a community, and years beyond that - experiencing the reality of maternity pay and witnessing friends crumble under the pressure We have come up with three key pillars for change 👉 Education 👉 Transparency 👉 Financial planning And the burden is split between 👉 Individuals/families 👉 Government 👉 Companies So I wanted to pitch this to our community. Had we got it right? Was our diagnosis accurate to their lived experience? I was genuinely gobsmacked by the response (particularly for a video over 2 minutes (!)) This pitch gained over 130,000 views 😱 with hundreds of comments providing invaluable insight And solidified that we are on the right path to transforming parental leave in the UK. Our audience back our mission. Do you? Let me know any feedback in the comments 👇

Ministers Heather Humphreys and Roderic O’Gorman have announced that from 1 August, parents will be able to avail of 9 weeks paid Parent’s Leave and Benefit. The measure means that under the Parent’s Leave and Benefit schemes, the number of weeks that parents can take time off work, with financial support from the State, increases from 7 weeks to 9 weeks. The support applies to both parents and is part of the Government’s ambition to ensure that parents can enjoy meaningful quality time with their new-born in the knowledge they will be financially supported. Help make Ohio the best place to be a young child! Ohio friends, please take a few minutes to complete this survey about Paid Family Leave from Groundwork Ohio. The United States is one of six countries in the world, and the only wealthy country, without national paid maternity leave through a Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) policy. While the U.S. offers 0 weeks of paid leave after birth or family expansion, the global average is 29 weeks of paid leave and as high as 52-82 weeks in some of the most supportive countries. In the absence of a national PFML policy, states around the country have stepped up. In 2023, 21 states and D.C. had enacted paid family and medical leave laws. Ohio is not among them. Sadly, even unpaid leave through the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is inaccessible for 60 percent of Ohioans due legal technicalities that disqualify much of the overall workforce. Let's do better. https://lnkd.in/gvq-MFp6

CEO @ It's Never You charity , fighting for change #hughslaw | Director The Shire London, The Inspiration , The Legacy & West London Golf Centre
My work with It's Never You has taken me down a path of campaigning and fighting for the rights of parents that suffer and yet to suffer from the financial hardship that bestows them when they have a sick child. My question which I am driven by is the abundance of financial support for the happiest time of your life: maternity and paternity pay, guaranteed jobs, workers’ rights, and allowances. But nothing available if your child is diagnosed with a chronic or life-limiting illness, when you are at the most anxious and dread-filled time of your life. How can this be?
