This week, we enjoyed reading the insightful analysis from Activant Capital titled "IIoT at Tipping Point" and were proud to see two our portfolio companies, Cybus and Firecell , featured in their thesis map. 🤩 The research highlights that the IIoT market is reaching a critical inflection point, with significant growth opportunities on the horizon. Here are some of our take-aways 👇🏼 ➡️ While the benefits of IIoT are clear, most manufacturers do not have a system in place or are building one in-house from scratch. However, this is now changing. ➡️ AI developments are creating new and better ways to leverage existing data. The end goal is to have data that can start to automate decisions. By leveraging AI, the data captured from IIoT solutions can finally enable industrial settings to become more agile, responsive and cost efficient. ➡️ "IIoT is on track to revolutionize the manufacturing industry. Despite the implementation challenges, we see a large opportunity and many of startups profiled are making IIoT more accessible, easy to implement, and scalable. [...] We expect the industry 4.0 use cases to multiply exponentially." We couldn't agree more with this conclusion and this is why we have observing and investing in the IIoT space for many years. I was curious to see a bit more emphasis on what we recognize being the most important element when discussing IIoT: The data infrastructure in IIoT and generally manufacturing environments. Because we are investigating a quite fragmented IIoT landscape here, which needs to work smoothly together. Without the integrating factor of the infrastructure, the local (not integrated) excellence builds silos and impairs the company’s ability to scale quickly. That’s one of the strongest challenges our customers tackled and solved with us: Setting up a digital backbone – integrating all the mentioned categories in your report – which scales horizontally and vertically on a local factory but also globally across factories.
