🌳 We're Planting Trees with Just One Tree! 🌳 Today a further 178 seeds have been selected and planted by @just_one_tree and their partners because of you! These seeds will be nurtured in their nurseries until the next rainy season. At that time, the Netcom Solutions seedlings will be transported to carefully selected new homes, where they will be planted and cared for over the coming years. This initiative will add another 50 trees to reforestation projects in key countries such as Brazil, Madagascar, and Kenya, as well as kelp regeneration efforts off the coasts of the Philippines and Australia. Each tree costs just £1. In some countries, your £1 can plant more than one tree, making your contribution even more impactful. Plus, this effort supports local communities who grow, nurture, and restore these important forests. We’ve pledged to plant 2 new trees for every new connection we make—whether mobile, broadband, fixed line, or hosted—and 10 new trees for every business energy connection. Join us in making a positive impact on our planet with every connection! #Reforestation #TreePlanting #JustOneTree #NetcomSolutions #Sustainability #EnvironmentalImpact #GlobalGreening #OnePlanet

In service of prosperity for people and planet. Caring for all life. Doing my best to embody the highest values.
It's so easy to skim over these brief impact communications, so I invite you to reflect for a moment on this one... 37 people employed in a remote Kenyan town with few employment opportunities to work in greenhouse operation that provides trees for reforestation across the landscape... a fraction of the >400 fulltime jobs that have been created by the Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project. How do you protect forests? By creating value for the people who choose to conserve them. REDD+ is the only proven, scalable mechanism that enables us to do this in every threatened forest on our dear planet Earth.
The Wildlife Works Kasigau Corridor REDD+ Project's Greenhouse Department has significantly boosted local employment and sustainable development. 🧑🌾 🇰🇪 Local involvement is on the rise in every way. The department now employs 39 staff members, 37 from the local community. Seedling suppliers have increased from 131 to 227, showcasing the community's active participation in the forest economy. And since 2022, 802 farmers have been trained at the demonstration site, with many then adopting sustainable agricultural practices. This progress highlights the project's dedication to creating sustainable livelihoods, reducing poverty, and fostering inclusive economic development. Curious to know more? The "Wilderness Activity Zone" (or Moorland Environmentally Significant Area) is a critical part of the Aberdares ecosystem, designated to protect the moorland's unique species and vital water catchment areas. 🌿💧 This area harbours rare species, some of which are endemic, making it a biodiversity hotspot. Due to its ecological fragility, visitor use is strictly controlled to prevent natural resource degradation. Infrastructure development in this zone is limited to essential services and resource protection. 🚫 The proposed construction of the Ihithe - Ndunyu Njeru road through this sensitive area threatens its delicate balance. Here’s how the road will impact the zone: ▪️ Habitat Destruction: The construction will disrupt habitats, leading to the loss of unique plant and animal species. ▪️ Water Catchment Damage: The road could damage crucial water catchment areas, affecting water supply for surrounding communities. ▪️ Increased Human Activity: More human activity will lead to pollution, poaching, and further degradation of the environment. ▪️ Fragmentation: The road will fragment the ecosystem, making it harder for species to move and survive. ▪️Erosion and Landslides: Construction could lead to soil erosion and increase the risk of landslides, further damaging the environment. We call on the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) to cancel the license permitting this construction. Let's ensure that our natural heritage is preserved for future generations. Together with the City of Worcester, BSC Group (BSC) is spearheading the design and creation of two Miyawaki Forests and two Resilient Community Spaces. These projects aim to combat extreme heat, flooding, and air quality issues, and to promote social justice by building climate resilience for the city's most vulnerable populations. In collaboration with Bio4Climate, a leader in the Miyawaki planting method, BSC is deploying these innovative green infrastructures in areas identified as environmental justice zones—predominantly low-income, racially diverse communities with limited English proficiency, situated in urban heat islands with sparse tree coverage and extensive concrete surfaces. Heather Gould, AICP, the lead project manager at BSC, underscores the deliberate choice of these locations to maximize impact where it is most needed.🌍💚 Biodiversity for a Livable Climate #MiyawakiForests #Worcester #CommunityPlanting #UrbanForestry #SustainableCities #GreenWorcester #NatureHeals #PlantingForTheFuture #Volunteers #Bio4Climate #CityOfWorcester

Preserving and protecting biodiversity through impact travel, land use planning, property & business development, education and empowerment | Orbis Expeditions | RAIC | African Conservancies
Where do you honestly sit on the paradigm of Africas biodiversity destruction crisis? (YES , it is a CRISIS) Do you subtly or inadvertently rather keep trying to “solve” the problem with short term “patch” interventions, which may ultimately be perpetuating the real problem? Does your NGO or business exist BECAUSE of the problem? And have you considered changing your model to potentially provide support and focus to a more meaningful long term solution? Do you perhaps have a deep grained internal prejudice that rural communities, even with a patient approach and given sufficient financial support, equal opportunity and understanding, don’t have the ability to manage their own land and business affairs, which is why they need you to do so for them? (a mere 70-100 years on, after been given their “independence” back, forgotten by their governments and with their natural worlds and cultures ripped apart by exploitative colonialism, with the developed worlds insatiable hunger for natural resources to fuel their growth) It’s also perhaps easier to exploit a community or even a country if they are vulnerable? Currently sectors(broadly speaking) such as mining, hunting, game farming, safari travel and renewables, where the majority of investment and shareholder ownership is vested abroad and where most of every dollar made gets extracted, help keep these communities poor.. sure jobs are created and there are some taxes paid… OR Will you consider rather focusing on providing your time, skills and available resources to (urgently) create alternative livelihoods at scale for these communities, as the PRIMARY beneficiaries of a long term economic plan to develop substantive and thriving, localized and resilient Conservation Economies, from the sustainable non consumptive and consumptive utilization of their land and natural assets? You would be ultimately helping deliver the UN’s SDG’s and 30 x 30 goals, whilst mitigating our global climate change challenges to save your own skin! [Myriad Canada's new project to support forest landscape restoration around the world] Myriad Canada is proud to announce a new project with WeForest to restore threatened and degraded forests landscapes, with the aim of amplifying the impact of trees for people, nature, and climate. Activities of this project may include the protection of remaining forests through the strengthening of local governance and community engagement, the reduction of deforestation by introducing agroforestry practices to local communities, and the measurement of the forests’ growth as well as their environmental and socio-economic impact through mapping and research. WeForest is a nonprofit organization based in Brussels whose mission is to contribute to action on climate, the environment and humanity, through the conservation and restoration of forests and forest landscapes on a global scale. Since 2009, WeForest’s four global programmes – encompassing nearly 20 tailored nature-based projects across Latin America, Africa, and Asia have resulted in over 50,000 hectares of forest landscape restored and conserved, 80 million trees growing, 70,000 families strengthened economically, and 5M tonnes of CO₂ captured. #forests #protection #restauration #environment To find out more and support this project: https://lnkd.in/eQX_bK6H Myriad Alliance Fondation Roi Baudouin Myriad USA Give2Asia Myriad Australia The Gift Trust New Zealand

Talk Africa, a development-oriented media platform, has recently spotlighted the mangrove reforestation work being done on Funzi Island in Kwale County, Kenya, where Vlinder has one of its carbon projects. The article explains why mangroves, "warriors in the battle against climate change," play an important role in coastal ecosystems and community lives and interviews local community enthusiasts dedicated to their restoration. We’re happy to see the efforts of Vlinder and our partner UMITA Limited highlighted, particularly in educating the community about mangrove planting, guidance on selecting the best planting locations, and supporting the community by purchasing seedlings and creating planting jobs. Approximately 87% of Kwale County’s households rely on mangrove wood for fuel and construction, as mentioned in the publication. This is why fair carbon revenue sharing with the communities and creating additional livelihoods, including alternative sources of wood for fire, are essential for the mangrove reforestation project's sustainability. https://lnkd.in/dkCUpV4W The photo below was taken on Funzi Island in February 2024 by our teammate Abdallah Mafimbo. #Mangroves #Reforestation #ClimateAction #Sustainability #CommunitySupport #Vlinder #Umita #Papariko
