Because of palm oil’s notorious reputation, when people read about community members in Sierra Leone producing it, they may initially shy away from the idea. But there’s more to this situation than many people realize. #palmoil #communitydevelopment #economicgrowth

Empowering Communities, One Drop at a Time: Pioneering Sustainable Water Solutions
About us
The Water Project, Inc., a dedicated 501(c)(3) non-profit, strives to alleviate the water crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, where water stress is notably higher than in many other regions. Approximately 1 in 3 Africans face water scarcity, and nearly 400 million people in sub-Saharan Africa lack access to basic drinking water. This reflects a profound challenge, as the region grapples with overburdened water systems, rapid urbanization, and the impacts of climate change. Since our inception in 2007, The Water Project has been committed to building safe and reliable water sources, backed by our Water Promise initiative. This involves consistent monitoring and maintenance, ensuring the sustainability of each project. Our aim is to forge a deep connection between donors and the communities they support, providing detailed insights through stories, maps, and photos, thus making each donation a life-changing act for both parties. We invite you to learn more about our methods, results, and future vision at TheWaterProject.org, where we continue to address these critical challenges and work towards a future where everyone can access safe and clean water.

"Life without ready access to clean water is tough for many reasons. Without water, it becomes difficult for people to keep themselves and their environments clean. This, in turn, infects people with hygiene-related diseases and hurts people’s dignity and sense of self." #WaterCrisis #WASH #Hygiene

Have you ever heard of a scoop hole? Where we work in sub-Saharan Africa, scoop holes are common, but people in other parts of the world will likely never have heard of one. Our latest blog by Jamie Heminway delves into the realities of relying on scoop holes, the challenges they present, and our efforts to find sustainable, safer water solutions. #WaterCrisis #Sustainability

The Water Project reposted this
This week I am excited to hear our Program Officers Tom Murphy and Sam Ngidiwe co-present with leaders from our network partners, Mariatu's Hope (Sierra Leone) and WEWASAFO (Western Kenya) at the Water, Engineering, and Development Center (WEDC) Conference. I am proud of their pursuit of reliable water access and my team's work in sharing our learning.
