Latest: MoD data breach: UK armed forces' personal details accessed in hack. The hack targeted a payroll system used by the Ministry of Defence, which includes names and bank details of both current and some past armed forces members. In a very small number of cases, the data may include personal addresses. It is unknown who is behind the hack or what the data may be used for. The data, described as "personal HMRC-style information", relates to current and former members of the Royal Navy, Army and Air Force over a period of several years. 20% raise for Junior Enlisted Service Members! A draft NDAA recently passed the House Armed Services Committee which would provide a 20% raise for E1 to E4s. The bill also includes a 4.5% raise for more senior ranks. (And a 13% raise for E5s) The raise would ensure all base pay rates are more than $30,000 per year. The raise would be part of a larger move to improve Service Member quality of life. To reflect the focus on quality of life improvements, the draft NDAA carries the unusual title: Servicemember Quality of Life Improvement and National Defense Authorization Act. What do you think? The number of unhoused veterans grew to 35,574 in January 2023, up 7.4% from the same point-in-time count in 2022. That’s according to new data released by the departments of Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs.  After several years of a downward trend, the number of veterans living in shelters or on the street grew due to a combination of a lack of affordable housing and the end of several supportive measures, including eviction bans. The annual point-in-time-count, conducted every January, gives a sense of how many people are experiencing homelessness at the start of each year. Last year there were 33,136 unhoused veterans reported.
