The $122 million new U.S. 1 bridge over the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter has taken the shape of a smile with a few missing teeth. Drivers may be grinning by the end of the year, too. They can now see walls along its piers. Next, they will see concrete beams rise on the bridge’s approach spans. Both lanes are scheduled to open for drivers next spring, and the entire project, which began about a year ago, is on track to end in the spring of 2026. Structural & Geotech Engineers and Trail Builders... CHANCE recommends battered piles for many walkway and boardwalk projects to optimize load transfer, reduce pile bending moment demand, and enhance stability. 💡 The benefits: 1️⃣ Efficient Load Transfer: Battered piles efficiently distribute shear and moment loads, stabilizing structures and reducing reliance on passive pressure. 2️⃣ Reduced pile Bending Moment Demand: Minimize pile bending moment requirements with battered piles, leading to more cost-effective designs with smaller shaft. 3️⃣ Stiffer Pile Head Response: Battered piles offer a stiffer pile head response for improved stability and rigidity. 🦅 Helical piles for elevated walkways and boardwalks reduce environmental impact. The use of helical piles means a small installation "footprint". It matches perfectly with the need for minimal disturbance to the sensitive environmental surroundings. Using battered piles increases the opportunities to use helical piles for the remote, environmentally sensitive trails needing elevated walkways. How do you ensure #bridge stability and prevent intense resonant oscillations caused by wind loading? #ThenNowTomorrow This was the challenge facing engineers following the dramatic failure of the Tacoma Narrows suspension bridge in the US in 1940. As consulting engineer to the proposed Forth Road Bridge our founder David Anderson investigated solutions to this problem using state of the art aerodynamic modelling leading to new design features. 🎂 The new crossing opened on 4 September 1964 and this year, we're proud to celebrate its 60th birthday. When it opened, the Forth Road Bridge was at the forefront of state of the art #BridgeDesign and construction. Its 1,006m central span was the first time that any bridge outside the US had exceeded 1km. 🌉 Its two soaring 150m steel towers support the main cables made up of 11,618 steel wires, transferring the bridge loads into piers founded on Mackintosh Rock in the Firth of Forth, and into huge 56m-long concrete filled anchorage #tunnels at either end of the bridge. Anderson’s work on the bridge actually began with a report in 1926. This became a foundation of our ongoing innovation. Decades later, our specialists continue to drive the evolution of #BridgeEngineering and provide essential support to ensure #heritage structures benefit society long into the future. Which cutting edge bridges around the world do you admire? Share them with us below. 👇 Photos courtesy of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).

Unveiling The benefit of a site survey Site surveys provide accurate, baseline information that becomes the foundation of a project's scope of work and design documentation. Site surveys are inspections of an area where work is proposed, to gather information for a design or an estimate to complete the initial tasks required for an outdoor activity. It can determine a precise location, access, best orientation for the site, and the location of obstacles. Surveyors use their measurements and data to help engineers and architects design structures that are safe and efficient. Accurate land survey data also helps to ensure that construction projects stay within budget and are completed on time. What is included in a survey: (1)Existing buildings (including valuation, measured surveys, structural surveys, structural investigations, condition surveys, and demolition surveys). (2)Geological and geotechnical. (3)Topographical surveys, perhaps including laser scanning, Lidar or photogrammetry. (4) Contamination. So, if you're looking to build a site regardless it is an old home or bear development land, you need a site survey, we can help. Our engineering solutions cater to both residential and commercial construction projects, and we'll make sure that you get the most out of your land. #builder #developers #buyer #seller #land #landowners #propertymanagers #propertyowners #residential #commercial #new #developers #realestate
