Exciting news today from our portfolio company, Centivo. The combination with Eden Health will offer employees new ways to access primary care – when they need it and how they want to access it.   Eden Health offers services that augment Centivo's current virtual primary care strategy, such as virtual engagement with clinicians, behavioral health services and analytics – all of which can be tailored to the unique needs of an employer’s population. Better and more accessible primary care is a major theme for us at Morgan Health, and Centivo has several great offerings based on patient engagement with a primary care provider. A strengthened focus on virtual primary care is a logical next step – particularly because guiding patients to a network of high-quality providers at an affordable cost requires a trusted relationship. In a Health Affairs op-ed, three healthcare policy experts, Kevin Grumbach, M.D., Deborah J. Cohen, Ph.D., and Yalda Jabbarpour, M.D., argue that for-profit corporations have destabilized the primary care market in the U.S. They highlight that large corporations, including Walgreens, Amazon, and CVS Health, entered the primary care space with significant investments, acquiring innovative practices like One Medical and Oak Street Health. However, these ventures have struggled to turn a profit, often relying on external funding and failing to sustain themselves through clinical revenues. The authors criticize these for-profit entities for prioritizing short-term financial gains over the long-term investment needed to enhance primary care quality and accessibility. They note recent setbacks, such as Walgreens shutting down primary care clinics and Walmart closing health centers, as evidence of the market's fragility. The authors conclude that more assertive public policy is needed to protect primary care and ensure it serves as a public good rather than a profit-driven venture. PeopleOne Health Raises $32.3 Million Series B to Expand Value-Based Primary Care Pittsburgh, PA – PeopleOne Health, a leading provider of value-based primary care, has secured up to $32.3 million in Series B funding. The round was led by GV (Google Ventures), with participation from other investors, including healthcare entrepreneur Glen Tullman PeopleOne Health plans to use the funding to accelerate its growth, enhance its ability to scale operations, invest in talent and technology, and further innovate its care model. Led by CEO Jordan Taradash, PeopleOne Health offers a unique approach to healthcare that emphasizes both treatment and prevention. By focusing on keeping people healthy and providing proactive care, the company aims to reduce overall healthcare costs for both employers and employees. "We are reimagining primary care with a focus on value, accessibility, and patient experience," said Jordan Taradash, CEO of PeopleOne Health. "This funding will allow us to expand our reach and bring our innovative model of care to more people across the country." PeopleOne Health currently operates nine primary care centers, providing patients with access to a wide range of healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, diagnostic experts, mental health providers, nutritionists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and social workers.
