🌏 Market Update: Victoria, Australia Targets 8.5GW Energy Storage by 2035 The state of #Victoria in #Australia is gearing up for a transformative journey in energy with an ambitious roadmap that sets a benchmark of 8.5GW for energy storage by 2035, marking a substantial escalation from the present 537MW capacity. With a projection of at least a 50% increase in electricity use over the next decade, the state plans to introduce approximately 11.4GW of grid-scale renewables, including 4GW of #OffshoreWind and an additional 7.6GW of #RooftopSolar. Last week, New York's Public Service Commission approved a plan to add 6GW of energy storage across large-scale, community, commercial, industrial, and residential sectors by 2030. The plan intends to bolster grid reliability and resilience by expanding NY's energy storage programs to cost-effectively unlock growth. Pairing distributed energy solutions like solar with battery storage increases a customer's resiliency to costly power outages and ensures a stable supply of power to keep businesses running. The growth curves of grid-scale renewable energy, especially solar and wind, remind us to never feel limited by the obstacles ahead. Already, solar has knocked down so many barriers to become cost competitive with conventional generation technologies. When comparing the unsubsidized cost of energy, renewables win. While we confront the headwinds, remember that we once aspired to bring about 500 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity.
