In 1974, a group of friends, inspired by the experiences of one who had returned from a Peace Corps assignment, embarked on a transformative mission, which led to the creation of WES. Their purpose was clear: To fill a critical void in the United States education landscape by offering credential evaluations to individuals with international credentials. Over the last 50 years, WES has become a leading social enterprise in the international education landscape, supporting the evolution, innovation, and growth of programs and policies that support the communities it serves. We are excited to see what the next 50 years will bring! Learn more about the foundation of WES and our growth over the last 50 years, here: https://ow.ly/4cay50Shca4 #WES50

Finally Somehow Home - Chapter 4.1 (excerpt) I thought the Marine Corps was trying to teach me about war. About how to be proficient in its conduct. But that’s not where the real lessons were - the lessons that set us apart from the rest. Not even close. What set us apart from the rest was not what we learned about war, but what we learned about ourselves. Yes, we had to know the technical aspects of operating at an elite level, but what made us elite was the lessons we learned for ourselves about ourselves in those grueling days. I remember when I was at dive school, I asked a friend how he could fin so fast (swimming with fins on). “If you want to be a faster finner, fin faster” was his answer. It’s not pain that gives you perseverance. The only way to learn it is to do it. Perseverance gives you perseverance. That’s it. There is not an easy way. The same is true of life. When it sucks. When you really don’t have what you need to keep going. When it really sucks bad deep as fuck and you have only two options: give the fuck up or take one more step…if you take that step, the next feeling you’ll have is more and worse pain. It’s that feeling where you ran out of the energy to complain a very long time ago. Where there’s no more jokes, there’s no more bitching about how much it sucks, there’s no more of anything but to keep going. At that point it’s only pure rage that you’re clinging to because that is the only tangible emotion that you can feel toward your tremendous and overwhelming and incessant and un-relieved pain. And you know it will not end soon. That feeling. That is the feeling of you becoming awesome. Becoming elite. That’s what it feels like to become elite. That’s what set us apart. You can only get it that way. That’s just how that shit works. READ THE REST AT: https://lnkd.in/gcgBaxJg #perseverance #elite #Marines #Recon #SpecialOperations #jasonleemorrison

During the 23-24 school year, 3rd-8th grade students in the City of Fort Worth met grade-level standards just 35% of the time. This shocking number is far lower in some regions of the City. On the East side, one of the middle schools has students meeting grade-level standards just 7% of the time. But what does this mean exactly? Imagine 100 eighth-grade students preparing to enter high school. Only 7 of them are well prepared for success. The other 93 are on a path to dropping out or barely graduating, unprepared for college, career, or military service. Check out the full report by Fort Worth Education Partnership to see how each public school in the city performed.

As a kid, a computer game called Age of Empires captured my imagination, sparking a lifelong fascination with history that carried into college, where I majored in the subject. After graduating, I found that it aligned well with my role as a Marine Corps intelligence officer. But when I transitioned to civilian life, I faced a daunting question: had I wasted my education in a world increasingly dominated by computers? After six years working as a civilian, my answer is a definitive no. In an era where apathy seems to be our greatest challenge, the stories of the past offer invaluable insights. These narratives are not just tales of conquest and empire, but lessons in change, leadership, and personal accountability. In The Hart & The Cur's latest issue, I explore how historical competency can be the antidote to modern apathy and how the strategies and psychologies from centuries ago still resonate in our contemporary world. I’m reaching out to let you know that I know how it feels to be laid off. When I left active duty in the Marine Corps, I had to go on employment because I couldn’t find a job right away. I’ve been there and have experienced the lack of confidence and self doubt that accompanies it. Here’s my advice to you, now, standing on the other side of it. Here are some actionable steps you can take: Make a list of people you admire and respect, determine how they can each help you, and then make a plan to reach out to the people on that list. Being proactive and being clear when you ask for help are the things you can control within a seemingly uncontrollable situation. ❤️ #unemployed #laidoff #marinecorps

I'm trying to incorporate wargaming into high school education, for my 9th grade History students. Going to follow roughly the same learning sequence as what I've seen being used in professional military education: 1.Introduce a concept with a traditional lecture style lesson. 2. Have students do some reading on the topic. 3. Play a wargame on the topic - in the most recent and relevant example, the Gallipoli landings in 1915. 4. Assess students via their reflection on the game. They need to write a report on their role in the battle, using historical terms and concepts as much as possible. They need to describe what happened, but also the more general lessons they have learned from the experience, e.g. on the nature of trench warfare, WW1 casualty levels, the challenges faced by Anzac soldiers in the Gallipoli campaign, etc. I'm going to trial this at my own school. If it works, I will attempt to roll it out across the diocese. If it doesn't work - back to the drawing board!

Senior Leader Focused in Project Management and People Development & Process Optimization to Influence Revenue Increases and Improved Employee Relations
As a student and member of the Corps Cadets at Texas A&M, we are forced to memorize certain facts and items aka campusologies about Texas A&M which in the moment are just words we try to learn to avoid getting in "trouble". All these later, there is one that comes to mind often and in the last few months has been one I have thought about often when I question a decision especially when I was going against the grain. The campusology is Governor and 1st President of TAMU Richard Coke's advice to the 1st class on the steps of Old Main on October 4, 1876: Let your watchword be duty, and know no other talisman of success than labor. Let honor be your guiding star in your dealings with your superiors, your fellows, with all. Be as true to a trust reposed as the needle to the pole, stand by the right even to the sacrifice of life itself, and learn that death is preferable to dishonor. Breakdown a few items: Watchword-a word or phrase expressing a person's or group's core aim or belief. Talisman-an object, typically an inscribed ring or stone, that is thought to have magic powers and to bring good luck. Be as true to a trust reposed as the needle to the pole- always point north and in the morally right direction
