Preventing Opioid Overdoses: Dr. Haynes has been instrumental in providing telemedicine services that offer immediate and accessible support for those struggling with opioid addiction. His approach includes the use of Buprenorphine (Suboxone) treatment, which is crucial in managing opioid dependency and preventing fatal overdoses. It's time to protect people's access to substance abuse treatment 🩺 Currently, providers can prescribe buprenorphine for opioid addiction via telehealth without in-person visits, improving access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for addiction 💊 The DEA's new proposal (to start in 2025) requires patients receiving buprenorphine via telehealth to visit their provider in-person at least once before December 2024, or they will lose access to treatment. How can you help? 1. Spread the word to your patients 📣 Ensure that those receiving buprenorphine visit their provider before December 2024 so they don’t lose access to treatment! 2. Advocate 🙋 Urge the DEA to codify a special registration process for certain physicians to be able to provide access to MAT without in-person visits! 3. Provide feedback ✍️Look out for an additional “written comment period” in fall 2024 to provide further feedback to the DEA on their current proposal! #OpioidEpidemic #accesstocare #Telemedicine

Having a strong support system is a crucial factor in preventing substance abuse and achieving long-term recovery. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a robust support network can reduce the risk of drug and substance abuse by up to 70%. This support provides positive influences, emotional encouragement, practical help, and accountability, all of which are essential for maintaining a healthy, substance-free life. NIDA emphasizes that behavioral therapies, which rely heavily on social support, are effective in treating drug addiction. These therapies help individuals in treatment modify their attitudes and behaviors related to drug use, leading to improved outcomes and reduced relapse rates. By building a strong support network, individuals can overcome addiction and achieve long-term sobriety. #Ndinewe #SubstanceAbuseAwareness
