Imagine urgently needing mental health support but facing an 8-month wait for an in-network doctor. Why is this happening? Dr. Andrew Popper’s recent STAT article sheds light on a critical issue affecting both patients and doctors. As a psychiatrist and solo practitioner, Dr. Popper faced a daunting reality: Overwhelming administrative burden The time he spent on phone calls with insurance companies to get paid overtook his patient care hours. To keep his practice alive, Dr. Popper made the difficult decision to stop accepting insurance. This wasn’t easy. He understood that it would limit access to those who needed it most. But it was the only viable option to keep the lights on. This story isn’t unique to #mentalhealth. We’re seeing similar trends in primary and specialty care, leading to skyrocketing wait times. Patients are suffering. Dr. Popper’s experience is a wake-up call to the challenges healthcare providers face and the impact on patient care. #healthcareonlinkedin #healthcare #medicine

Executive Director at First 100 Days. Helping purpose-led organisations to fulfil their potential via diversified, predictable, and sustainable revenue streams.
After more than 12 months of developing a co-investment proposal and dozens of positive meetings with politicians and health department leaders, we are now at the point where we just need Federal Health Minister Mark Butler to say 'yes'. We know the Government has many competing priorities at present, but the evidence is clear. Better supported glaucoma patients (via our SiGHTWiSE program) save more sight, and save the health system many millions of dollars ongoing. Please Minister Butler, help Glaucoma Australia to save the sight of more Australians in the years ahead. #glaucoma #glaucomaawareness #MarkButler #FederalHealthMinister #ndisaustralia
🌟 Urgent Call to Action 🌟 Our #SiGHTWiSE Patient Support Program is facing unprecedented demand, and we are seeking funding from the Federal Government to ensure we can continue providing vital services to those in need. In 2023 alone, SiGHTWiSE welcomed 2,883 new patients, a significant 28% increase from the previous year. This surge in patients underscores the critical importance of our program in addressing the challenges of glaucoma and preventing irreversible sight loss. Glaucoma Australia CEO Richard Wylie is asking for $4.5 million over four years for the Patient Support Program to ensure it can support an additional 5,000 patients. “This world-class program keeps patients on track with their treatment which helps to keep them out of emergency departments, and to preserve their sight,” Mr Wylie said. Glaucoma Australia currently delivers the essential Patient Support Program at no cost to the patient or the health system, and has never received financial or other support from State or Federal Governments. Our ambassador, 7 News Presenter Mike Amor, echoes this sentiment in a heartfelt plea to Health Minister Mark Butler. Mike emphasises the urgency of supporting Glaucoma Australia's efforts and calls on the government to seize this opportunity and join us in our mission to combat preventable blindness, preserving sight for all Australians. Our CEO, Richard Wylie, emphasises that this investment is not just about funding a program; it's about preserving sight, reducing the burden on emergency departments, and improving long-term health outcomes for thousands of Australians. A recent report by Evaluate highlighted the looming economic impact of glaucoma, projecting a staggering $4.5 billion hit by 2025 without immediate intervention. Together, we can achieve positive health outcomes and ensure a brighter future for all Australians affected by glaucoma. Thank you, Mike, for championing our mission. #GlaucomaAwareness #PatientSupport #VisionForAll Bill Shorten National Disability Insurance Agency #MarkButler https://lnkd.in/evn8xKTx
