We anticipate an increase in the number of distributed generation installations in the future, with more electrification and wider adoption of consumer-based energy resources. This is likely to put pressure on distributors who are tasked with facilitating distributed generation connections to the network. We are seeking feedback on two discrete amendments to the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010: - Inflation adjustment of the prescribed maximum fees for distributed generation applications (Part 6 of the Code) - Expanding the registry to include more detail on the distributed generation installed at an ICP (Part 11 of the Code) Have your say by 4 June 2024! More detail in the electricity registry will give distributors more visibility of distributed generation installations at a connection, and increasing the maximum prescribed fee level will ensure that distributors can adequately resource themselves to enable efficient and timely installations of distributed generation, which ensures consumers can get the most benefit from these distributed generation installations. https://lnkd.in/g8jzp9iM

In #photovoltaic power generation systems, power conditioning systems (PCS) and charge-discharge controllers are used to convert direct current output from solar panels into usable alternating current. The parameters that indicate the performance of a power generation system include actual amount of generated power and conversion #efficiency. The conversion efficiency of commercial solar panels ranges from 10% to 20%. Minimising the loss when converting the solar panel output to #AC leads to higher efficiency of the entire power generation system. In recent years, PCS for storage #batteries and hybrid PCS that can control storage batteries have also been introduced to the market for residential photovoltaic #power generation systems, and a power generation system linked to storage batteries has become the mainstream type. The conversion efficiency of PCS ranges from 95% to 98%. In order to improve the efficiency by 0.1%, evaluation using a #precision power analyser is required. Pleased to share my experience at the knowledge sharing session organized by the Electrical, Electronics, and Telecommunication Engineering Sectional Committee. The session was about the topic "Beyond 1000MW Solar PV Rooftop Systems in Sri Lanka," In my brief delivery, I covered the following four key takeaways from a distribution utility perspective 1. Traditional planning approaches need to be re-evaluated to incorporate probabilistic and integrated planning methods. 2. More emphasis should be placed on network capacity expansion and digitalization. 3. It is crucial to attract network service aggregators for solar PV, virtual net metering, and demand response business modalities. 4. More focus should be on microgrids and battery energy storage solutions, followed by innovative business models and personalized reliability services.
