Unpaid Internships are Underrated. Sorry to bust your chops. My first internship was unpaid. My wife was unhappy, my in-laws were downright frustrated. "How can they take advantage of you like this?" But I couldn't have gotten into Baruch MFE without that internship and the rest of my career would have been history. So, heck yeah it was worth it. But I want you to think of internships one step further. A vast majority (not all) of finance internships are not created because the firm needs help or a project worked on. They are created because the firm needs to HIRE A FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE. I like to think of internships as either PAID OR UNPAID INTERVIEWS. You need to act, react, behave, study, learn, and contribute in a similar fashion to how you would during an interview.
