Helping students and families control the college admissions process, instead of being controlled by it.
According to the Cornell Daily Sun, Cornell University will be reducing the number of acceptances in its Early Decision (ED) round this year. As a result, the school will be taking a larger number of students through Regular Decision (RD). From the article: * The University’s Presidential Task Force on Undergraduate Admissions provided recommendations in September for how Cornell could alter and improve their admissions process. The University is obligated to regularly review its admissions practices to ensure that the application process effectively recruits and admits a diverse group of talented students from across the world. Per recommendations from the task force, one such change already underway this application cycle is reducing the number of students admitted through early decision — a process that is designed for applicants who prioritize Cornell as their first choice, as it is a binding decision requiring a student to withdraw all their other college applications upon acceptance to the University. Most students admitted to Cornell are typically accepted through the regular decision round, a non-binding decision, with applicants applying in January and receiving a decision on Ivy Day at the end of March. * While more students are admitted during RD, the acceptance rate is significantly lower than ED. Also, the majority of the actual enrolled class was accepted during ED. Looking at Cornell's 2022-2023 Common Data Set, the ED admit rate was 19% (1,831 acceptances/9,555 applicants) and the RD rate was 5% (3,337 acceptances/61,609 applicants). In terms of the enrolled class of 3,491, 52% arrived through ED. It is positive for Cornell to favor RD spots, which gives students more time to make an enrollment decision and allows them to compare financial aid offers. Hopefully, the change will be meaningful and taken up by its peer institutions. - I help students & families control the college process, instead of being controlled by it. At the #top of the list, #Princeton University is the best #university in the country, known for its physics, economics, and international relations departments. Notably, it’s a rare Ivy league university that does not have a law, medical, or business school. #MIT places second, and #Harvard and #Stanford tie for third. #Yale rounds out the top five. Private universities, including seven Ivy League colleges, dominate the top of the rankings. Meanwhile, the highest-ranked public schools are tied at 15th, both state schools in California. For affordability, since the higher ranks are populated by private universities, there tends to be a broad #correlation of better universities being more expensive. That said, the most #expensive school in the top 50 ranks is actually the University of Southern California, tied at 28th, for $68,237/year. As it happens, also tied at 28th, the University of #Florida is the most #affordable public school for in-state students ($6,381/year) and Florida State University tied at 53rd, is the most affordable for out-of-staters at $21,683/year.

The recent Ivy League early admission trends, especially Harvard's departure from declining acceptance rates, indicate a strategic shift in response to public concerns about elitism. 🎓 The emphasis on higher acceptance rates in early rounds aligns with global admission strategies, recognizing the commitment of these applicants. Harvard's increase in first-generation college students demonstrates a positive move toward diversity and inclusivity. 🌐 It's important for students to understand these trends in the broader context of evolving higher education landscapes and the universities' efforts to address public perception and promote inclusivity. #HigherEd #CollegeAdmissions #IvyLeague #EducationTrends #StudentSuccess #AdmissionsStrategy #DiversityInEducation #InclusiveAdmissions #EducationInsights #FutureLeaders #GlobalEducation #AdmissionsCounseling #InnovativeEducation #EducationalEquity #AdmissionsTrends #EducationLeadership #LearningJourney

The Intensifying Competition for #IvyLeague Admission: An Educator's Lens As an educator, I find the latest data on Ivy League #CollegeAdmissions both fascinating and concerning. The eight prestigious Ivy League universities - #Harvard, #Yale, #Princeton, #Columbia, #UPenn, #Brown, #Cornell, and #Dartmouth - are becoming exponentially more selective each year. The numbers speak volumes: Harvard's admission rate dipped to a mere 3.2%, while Yale hit a historic low of 3.7%. Even Dartmouth, with the highest Ivy acceptance rate, was just 6.4%. With tens of thousands of applications pouring in annually, gaining entry to these elite institutions is akin to winning the lottery. Soaring Costs: A Barrier to Access? Beyond the daunting admission rates, the cost of an Ivy League education continues its upward trajectory. Annual costs range from $76,000 at Harvard to nearly $85,000 at Cornell and Brown, after factoring in tuition, fees, room, and board. While generous financial aid is available, the sticker prices raise concerns about accessibility for low-income and middle-class families. Standardized Testing: Still a Pivotal Factor Despite the test-optional trend, SAT scores remain a crucial differentiator. The median SAT scores for admitted students hover around 1500-1580, placing them in the top 1% nationally. Harvard and Dartmouth lead the pack, with median scores of 1550 (760 Reading/Writing, 790 Math). Striking a Balance: Holistic Admissions As educators, we understand that reducing students to numbers undermines the essence of holistic admissions. Ivy League institutions seek well-rounded individuals with diverse experiences, talents, and perspectives. Nonetheless, the data highlights the intense competition and the need for applicants to craft exceptional profiles. Looking ahead, I hope these elite universities continue to prioritize access, affordability, and a genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion. After all, the hallmarks of a world-class education should extend beyond exclusivity and embrace a rich tapestry of backgrounds and voices. What are your thoughts on the Ivy League admission landscape? I'm eager to hear perspectives from fellow educators and stakeholders in the #HigherEd community. #SATScores #TuitionCosts #AcademicExcellence #SelectiveAdmissions

🎓 Nearing a year at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) as a Ph.D. student, I've been immersed in the promising intersection of deep learning and healthcare, particularly in ophthalmology. This period has been one of profound learning and contribution to research with the potential to significantly advance patient care, a privilege I hold dear. Yet, it's important to highlight a significant issue that affects me, my fellow Ph.D. students, and the broader UNCC community. 💡 The fee structure for international Ph.D. students at UNCC is a significant financial challenge, especially when juxtaposed with the cost of living in Charlotte. The implications are far-reaching: 1. Innovation Risk: High fees may deter top talent from applying, risking the university's research excellence. 2. Academic Strain: Financial stress can harm students' mental health and detract from their academic and research focus. 3. Cost Clarity: The label 'fully funded' can be misleading for those, who may still encounter student fees exceeding $5,000. 4. Wider Effects: The financial burden affects not just students but also faculty recruitment, alumni engagement, and UNCC's reputation. 📢 Addressing the fee structure is imperative to ensure that UNCC can continue to attract and support the best and brightest students from around the world. We need a system that truly represents a 'fully funded' education. If you're part of the UNCC community and resonate with these concerns, please lend your voice by signing this form. Together, we can advocate for a change that benefits not just current, but future students as well. #PhD #UNCC #HigherEd #Research #Innovation #StudentWellbeing #AcademicCommunity #Petition Link to the petition: https://lnkd.in/eXGVqn5b
