News 📰 | Over 15,500 aircraft on backlog ensures industry remains buoyant despite year-on-year decrease in aircraft orders... ✈️ 15,716 aircraft are on backlog order at the close of January 2024, setting the tone for a busy work year ahead ✈️ With 34 orders placed in January 2024, aircraft orders are 63% behind January 2023 ✈️ Return to long-haul travel sees best January order book for wide-body aircraft Our Chief Economist, Aimie Stone says: “Following a record-breaking December 2023, January’s order figures, while lower than this time last year, still represent significant workshare for the UK and a slow and steady start to 2024. With Singapore Airshow reaching a conclusion in late February, and looking ahead to Farnborough International Airshow in the summer, it is imperative that political stakeholders reinforce their support to our pivotal sector as we continue to combat supply chain challenges.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eiT3XFnq #aircraft #aerospace #aerospaceengineering

The current commercial aviation landscape has been impacted by several noteworthy events over the last 5 years. Firstly, the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max in 2019 after two fatal crashes saw a significant impact on the Boeing supply chain as production slowed. This was further intensified at the beginning of 2024, when an Alaksa Airlines flight from Portland Oregon operating an eight-week-old Boeing 737 Max 9 experienced a door plug blow out shortly after take-off. Interesting piece that summarises the history and the future of commercial aircraft’s #boeing #airbus #COMAC #aviation
Newcomer to the #aircraft manufacturing supply chain is the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) that has debuted its narrow body C919 jet at the Singapore Airshow in January 2024. However, can the company scale-up its production capacity within the next decade to capture global market share and set itself up as a potential competitor in the existing duopoly between Airbus and Boeing? Check in with Project Blue's Howard Head to get the latest views. Read more here: ➡ https://lnkd.in/eV55VHS6 #aerospace #titanium #china

Next week's Singapore Airshow has a few anticipated highlights: Embraer's transport C-390 will be on static display. Following a successful year of orders in 2023, including South Korea, the OEM is positioning the medium airlifter as well suited to the APAC region. COMAC is sending a large contingent of two C919 narrow-body and three ARJ21 regional jets, with the C919 to fly its first international display. The Chinese C919, anA320-sized airliner, is aiming for a fifth of the global narrowbody market and a third of the Chinese market by 2035. This year's biennial airshow has the added backdrop of the maturing AUKUS alliance, contrasted against the first expected appearance of a Chinese military aircraft, the Changhe Z-10 attack helicopter, at an international air show. Boeing are somewhat conspicuous in their absence, with no aircraft flying or on static display. Airbus will be flying their A350-1000, with an A330neo and A400M on static. Business aviation will see a heavy presence in the mid-size range, with Dassault Aviation's 6X making its Singaporean debut after achieving certification last year, and BOMBARDIER, Embraer, Gulfstream Aerospace, HondaJet, Pilatus Aircraft Ltd, and Textron Aviation bringing a slew of jets. Parallel to the airshow is the Singapore Aerospace Technology and Engineering Conference (SATEC) 2024, a joint forum between the Republic of Singapore Air Force and the Singapore Institute of Aerospace Engineers (SIAE) with a focus on key developments and advancements in aerospace technology and engineering. See you in the Lion City. #aviation #aerospace #airpower #singaporeairshow

How do you fake an element?? 🔥 The titanium in question has been used in a variety of aircraft parts/components for planes built between 2019 and 2023, among them some Boeing 737 Max and 787 Dreamliner airliners as well as Airbus A220 jets. I think Boeing is saying the parts are "air worthy" - ie it is doing what it is supposed to do. So the issue here is that the documents are phony - and the suppliers are faking where the materials could be from - maybe China, Russia - who knows? In a world where resources are becoming scarce and yet geopolitical issues divide us - we certainly can expect more of such sourcing from "legitimate" source becoming more important. #boeing #usa #aviation #faa #rogerng #lbfalumni

Joe Biden and Xi Jinping spoke on the phone on 2 April, mostly about reducing tension in the South China Sea and Taiwan. There was no mention of the US and its allies intending to "decouple" from China when it comes to aircraft manufacturing, as has been done with semiconductors and telecommunications. Just as well. China is pushing ahead with its goal of attaining self-sufficiency in producing its own airplanes, a long and arduous journey that has taken over a decade and will take another one, at least, before it can even come close to Airbus and Boeing, never mind reach parity (that is a distant future, if at all). Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, better known as COMAC, showcased its latest product, the C919 single-aisle jet that has flown much all over mainland China but not overseas until it flew to Changi for the Singapore Airshow in February. The C919 is, to all intents and purposes, a poor man's version of the Airbus A320. The aircraft made a good impression, nevertheless, displaying a quietness that befits the CFM International (CFM) LEAP engines that power it. Inside, the China Eastern plane looked neat and natty. Following the airshow the C919 made a tour of Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand) as well as Malaysia and Indonesia, countries COMAC feels it has a fighting chance of getting orders. So far there's none. But there's a good chance there will be a few, in the coming years. Until that day comes, the Chinese will continue to tweak and rework its planes and engines, and flood its domestic market with these homegrown products. Read our brief analysis here: #airlines #airlineindustry #COMAC #airbus #boeing #China #C919
Commentary: China’s COMAC will not rock Airbus-Boeing boat for now, but it’s a matter of time
