Ugh... Quick story from the weekend... Young man in service industry was serving a child and family on a monumentally special day for the child. He did something outside the norm because the child asked him to on the special day. It was a tough judgement call. He chose to serve the child's wishes. And... he was blasted by his boss for it. There had not been sufficient training (even in the clear cut parts of the job). And it's sad there was not trust in the employees to do what they thought was best in gray situations. Brands: → We have to hire people we can trust. → We have to train them well and provide guardrails. → We have to give them some freedom to serve the customer in the way they think is best in the moment. They won't always get it right. But giving employees some leeway is better than trying to think that all the best ideas for every situation come from the top down. And when they get it wrong.... genuinely commend their attempt at service and coach them for next time.

By far, 2023 and 2024 have been the most exciting years in business. These are the first years we have taken intentional steps to be strategic. To call these years a roller coaster ride would be an understatement. Yet, I am so grateful for these hard-learned lessons and the fruit it's brought to the company and its employees. This is a follow-up post to my post a couple of weeks ago about using The Six Types of Working Genius assessment as a model to help us understand our team. What a fantastic model to help understand the types of work people enjoy or can be frustrated by. A huge shoutout to Cindi Harris for walking us through this process. We're still putting on the finishing touches, but if you want to understand your team and how they operate, I recommend engaging in this type of assessment. The amount of work involved is minimal, yet the results produce a yield that feels exponential. For anyone who already understands the model, my Genius returned with G and W. Awful joke I know 🤦♂️ But I wanted to make a quick post about the lack of promotions I've been hearing about from professionals within the Electronic Security industry. To a lot of you out there, working within this industry is more than just a job. It's actually fun and exciting experiencing a different project every time, learning about new technology and visiting some of the most secure places in the world. 🌍 Yet a lot of people have highlighted the lack of support for growth within their career. It's killing your love for the industry! 💔 What I'd like for you to do is, is just have a little think to yourself, reevaluate your position within your company and the work you put in. Is it worth it? There are so many opportunities out there to work within a team of like minded individuals, with upper management who love to watch people grow. ✨

I heard something the other day and before today I would never have given it a second though. The question was asked, “what is the worste thing you ever did.” The response shook me. “I became important. I did such a good quality job that I became important.” All my career to date all I wanted was to make a difference. Do such a good job that the company would appreciate and when it came time for promotion etc it would be without question. To instill the trust that I can get the job done. To me this was the conerstone of who I was. Work with everyone, help everyone, see everyone as your customer and remember the customer is always right. Then it happened. I was seen. I became trusted and now important to what I do and some days I don’t know what to do with that. Some days I sit here thinking how do I do it now. How do I get this done on time and under budget. Trust in my colleagues, trust my team. That is how you do it. Ask the hard question. Talk to them, be clear on your needs and timelines and then trust them to do what they do

"for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee." Recently, I found these words echoing in my life as I faced redundancy. Who died? Oh, it was my role. But like any end, it's a chance for a new beginning. It's time to bury the old, grieve if we must, cherish the memories, and then stride confidently onto a new path. While the bell may toll for that role, it doesn't have to toll for our careers and ambitions. Redundancy, although challenging, isn't an end but a transition. It's an opportunity to reassess, realign, and reinvigorate our professional journey. Our careers are more than just a series of roles; they are a tapestry of experiences, learning, and growth. So, let's not see the tolling bell as a somber end, but as a hopeful call to new adventures, new challenges, and new successes. Our paths may change, but our journey continues.
