Stop talking about why your customers can’t buy and start asking yourself this question…. - What do we need to do to make this a deal? Continually talking about the customer only wanting to put $X down or only wanting to pay $X a month or wanting $X for their trade “because Carvana said it’s worth that much) doesn’t help you sell that customer a car. So far, you asked the customer to buy and they said “No”…. Change the question you’re asking yourself then change the question you’re asking the customer. You just may get a different answer. 😉

Yesterday, my truck’s battery died, and it was not the way I wanted to start the day. When I tried to start the truck, I was met with silence—ugh, not today. Thankfully, my fiancé came home during lunch to help jump-start it, and with a bit of maneuvering, we got the truck going. I’ve trusted AutoZone for years, so I headed straight to the one Main Street in Cedar City, Utah. After explaining the issue, the staff tested the battery, and we agreed it needed replacing. The front counter associate quoted me $230 for a new battery but took the extra step to check if my old one was still under warranty. It turned out that the warranty had expired just two weeks ago. Feeling a bit frustrated, I resigned myself to the purchase, but his response caught me off guard and reminded me why I keep coming back to AutoZone. He said, “It’s just two weeks; I think it’s the right thing to do to honor the warranty.” I was pleasantly surprised—he didn’t have to do that, but he chose to. He not only resolved my issue but also used the moment to train a new employee, explaining the process and how to handle it next time. And before I left, he genuinely thanked me and said he was glad he could help. This experience made me reflect on what great customer service really looks like: 1. Last year was a chip shortage, slow change from online to in-person events. Inventory was low, dealerships were creating/buying to add to their pre-owned inventory stock. Labor shortages, strike options delays via port, rail and road accompanied by rollout of beta testing self-driving cars. High gas prices, low amount of charging stations nationwide. Climate change encouraging e-bikes, alternate transport as well as increase in health encouragement of walking. Yes, high interest rates and a nationwide cyberattack are part of the reason. What’s the big picture.? Secondary/backup technology is a must for any and all businesses in today’s world. Manufacturers’ OEM business model, adding/changing to mobility services industry, multi-brand players.
