#FarmerFocus - The Soil Health Institute, in partnership with USDA-NRCS and The National Association of Conservation Districts, interviewed 30 farmers in 20 states who adopted a soil health management system (SHMS) and assessed the economic and on-farm benefits they experienced. The Dr. Harold Wheeler farm in the Roebuck Lake-Yazoo River Watershed of Mississippi increased profitability for corn and soybean by increasing crop yield with a SHMS of reduced tillage, poultry litter applications, and cover crops. Additional benefits included improved water infiltration and soil structure, reduced erosion, and enhanced resilience to extreme weather conditions.
