Resident Chaplain at Adventist Health, Community Welfare Advocate, B.S. Religion

This week I am celebrating my official one-year work anniversary as a resident chaplain at Adventist Health Portland. As I reflect on my one year I can say with certainty that chaplaincy is a calling which is rich in meaning and gives you a deep sense of purpose every single day. No one day is the same and you never know what life circumstance you will support someone in. Whether your patient is serving a life sentence or wanting a life transformation after years of gang life. Maybe a family is losing their 16-year-old to drug overdose or someone is contemplating taking their own life. You might get asked to lead a funeral for your patient that passed, or to marry two people deeply in love with each other. You never really know what the day holds and over the course of these last 365 days I have been blessed to serve a God who loves to love and who is deeply compassionate and has taught me how to be loving and compassionate in a world full or hate and apathy. Shout out to Adventist Health Portland - you won't find a work place this meaningful and this caring. Adventist Health Portland, its management, its on the ground staff and everyone in-between are deeply caring people and I am blessed to work alongside each of them in East Portland. To anyone wanting to work in healthcare and want to work at a place full of community, meaningfulness, and for a population who are in great need, then come to Adventist Health Portland. If you're curious about working here, or about our mission, shoot me a message.
