1 in 4 Canadians may be at risk for liver disease 😮 A decade ago the risk was identified for 1 in every 10 Canadian. This rise may be attributed to a growing number of people who continue to deal with metabolic diseases and obesity, as experts suggest that our changing lifestyle choices may be at play here. Additionally, getting vaccinated for preventable liver diseases is key and using medications wisely is always encouraged. Guidelines for alcohol consumption were also updated last year and may slowly have an impact on the overall liver health of Canadians. Check out this video by Canadian Liver Foundation on how to improve overall liver health. #LiverHealth

#LoveYourLiverMonth is based around spreading the importance of your liver’s vital role in keeping you in good health. The liver is a fascinating organ and its importance is often underrated. It’s an amazing multi-tasker and has over 500 vital jobs to do to keep you alive. It’s just as important as other organs like your heart and lungs, but they tend to steal most of the limelight. In the UK, liver disease is on the rise. The three major preventable causes are drinking alcohol, obesity and viral hepatitis. When it’s damaged, the liver can repair itself, but only up to a point. Sadly, people with liver disease often don’t have any symptoms until the disease has progressed and it’s far too late for treatment. That’s why it’s so important to know the risk factors and to keep your liver happy and healthy for life – before long-lasting damage can occur. Take your first steps towards better liver health today. #CommunityAmbulanceService #CareConnectedtoCommunity

You must be thinking how is that possible right? The liver and kidneys are closely interconnected, and issues with your liver can indeed lead to kidney problems. This relationship is often referred to as "hepatorenal syndrome," where liver dysfunction can result in kidney impairment. Interesting, right? How Does This Happen? ✅ Cirrhosis: Chronic liver damage leading to cirrhosis can cause decreased blood flow to the kidneys, resulting in kidney dysfunction. ✅ Hepatitis: Viral infections like hepatitis B and C can cause inflammation and damage to both the liver and kidneys. ✅ Alcoholic Liver Disease: Excessive alcohol consumption can damage the liver and subsequently lead to acute kidney injury. These examples show how crucial it is to maintain liver health and prevent kidney complications. To know more about this connection and what precautions you should take, watch the reel!
