The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) is a leader in moving the needle forward in reliable, clean water and power. Maximizing every drop, this major utility has completed substantial projects for water quality, system connectivity, and recycling and recovery to create local resource reliability. Marty Adams, a 40-year LADWP veteran and the agency’s former general manager and chief engineer, helped bring the agency through a remarkable recovery after an earthquake threatened resource security at the start of his career and then helped it accomplish major infrastructure advancements during the COVID-19 pandemic, with many victories in between. Recently, Mr. Adams was appointed to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council to help advise the president on disaster response and the criticality of infrastructure to the functioning of the country. In a significant milestone for Thames Water and the communities it serves, the recently completed works at Thames Tideway tunnel carried out by Barhale and Thames Water aimed to mitigate combined sewer overflows in high-density urban areas, where aging infrastructure and increasing demands had created frequent overflows and environmental risks. This important initiative was recently highlighted on BBC news where the first four sites within the Thames Tideway Tunnel are now operational. Key insights from our Policy Chair Fernando Paludi on Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's Board action approving $142 million in funding for Delta Conveyance Project (DCP) planning: - The Board’s approval was near-unanimous with only one no vote (Santa Monica). - Approval of the preconstruction funding is explicitly NOT approval by Metropolitan of the DCP. - Participation in the preconstruction funding has important provision and off-ramps. - Metropolitan’s $141.6 million funding commitment will be offset by a $75 million refund by DWR. - 3% projected increase in Metropolitan’s rates in CY 2027 due to the funding commitment (net of $75 million). - Preconstruction activities will include permitting (which will help clarify DCP operational criteria and water rights), additional geotechnical and other engineering, and cost estimation).

Stantec maps infrastructure needs to drive growth in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Key strategic infrastructure requirements across #energy, #water supply and flood risk, blue and green #infrastructure and #connectivity in #Cambridgeshire and #Peterborough are addressed in a newly published report by #Stantec. Stantec was engaged by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) in September 2023 to develop the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Infrastructure Delivery Framework (IDF). The IDF is designed to provide a structured framework to understand current infrastructure constraints, enabling the Combined Authority and partners to articulate the scale of financial investment required to address barriers to growth. The 152-page IDF report - approved by CPCA on 13 November - covers the entire CPCA catchment including the four district councils of South Cambridgeshire, Fenland, East Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire plus Cambridge City, and Peterborough City as a Unitary Authority to the north. https://lnkd.in/ePrGKecw

Action Alert for DC Residents! Call on DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson to restore $6-8 million of funds swept from important green infrastructure maintenance to benefit Rock Creek. Removing green infrastructure maintenance is short-sighted; the District has invested tens of millions of dollars to build these facilities. We just need one year of stop-gap funding; an expected increase to the stormwater fee should yield enough in FY26 and beyond to cover this need. Failing to maintain our green infrastructure will reduce water quality!
