#OMV and Ryanair have renewed their offtake agreement for 500 tons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Ryanair - Europe's Favourite Airline CEO Michael O’Leary and OMV’s EVP Fuels & Feedstock Martijn A. van Koten signed the corresponding agreement in Vienna. Also in 2024, we will deliver Europe’s biggest low-cost airline with our innovative bio-based SAF. Good news for the environment. As a long-standing partner to the aviation industry, we bring a wealth of expertise to the emerging SAF market. Our SAF reduces CO2 emissions by more than 80% compared to conventional kerosene. The aviation industry is a hard-to-abate sector. To further continue the #transformation towards more sustainable mobility, we need strong alliances based on shared goals. Both Ryanair and OMV are committed to decarbonization. And SAF is at the heart of this mission.

"AirAsia Takes Flight Towards Sustainability: Mandatory Carbon Fees on All Flights Starting January 2025!" ✈️ AirAsia Bhd, the low-cost airline subsidiary of Capital A Bhd, will implement mandatory carbon fees on all flights across its network starting January 2025, according to its CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes. We have an option [for passengers to voluntarily pay the carbon fees], but we are not going to make it optional. If you put it optional, no one is going to do it," Fernandes explained. The carbon fee, added to ticket prices, aims to support governmental efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation sector. source: https://lnkd.in/gkWaGasU #AirAsia #Sustainability #CarbonNeutral #GreenTravel #AviationInnovation #EcoFriendly #ClimateAction #TravelSmart #AirlineNews #FutureOfTravel #CO2 #Emissions #Year2025 #News

So, OMV and Ryanair - Europe's Favourite Airline, when you say you've "renewed" your SAF offtake agreement, do you mean you've signed a new agreement, or you've just announced your original agreement a second time? Also, this agreement is for 500 tons of SAF. In FY2023 Ryanair used 5 *million* tons of fuel, so this is 0.01% of your consumption (if it's all used in one year, less if it's spread over several years). Does that really justify a photo op, or are you hoping that people won't realise how pathetically little this is? Ironically, Ryanair is better than most other airlines in its 2030 target of using 12.5% SAF, and that's absolutely to your credit. So why are you diluting a genuinely strong SAF message with this kind of greenwashing nonsense?

More sustainable fares on all European flights ✈️ Efforts are underway within the Lufthansa Group to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 🌱✈️ Through investments in a new and fuel-efficient fleet, utilization of sustainable aviation fuels, and adoption of cutting-edge aerodynamic technologies, continuous measures are being developed to reduce emissions from flying. Introducing Green Fares: Economy Green and Business Green ♻️💼 These new fares aim to promote sustainable flying with Lufthansa Group airlines. Green Fares, enhancing familiar Europe fares, already encompass the reduction and offsetting of flight-related CO2 emissions in the ticket price. Opting for an Economy Green or Business Green fare ensures a 20% reduction in individual CO2 emissions through sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) 🌍💚 Additionally, the remaining 80% of individual CO2 emissions are offset by an equivalent contribution to high-quality climate-protection projects. This comprehensive approach to reduction and offsetting is closely tied to the new fares, providing a convenient way to fly more sustainably. Join the journey towards a greener future by choosing Green Fares with Lufthansa Group airlines 🌿🛫 #lufthansagroup #greenfares #sustainabletravel

We’re very excited to announce the start of a new partnership with LOT Polish Airlines today! SkyNRG supplied Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to LOT Polish Airlines at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport's hydrant system using the Book & Claim model. LOT Polish Airlines took a collaborative approach to fund the SAF offtake, involving voluntary contributions from passengers who share their dedication to lower carbon emissions. This offtake is the first step in a growing ambition between SkyNRG and LOT to contribute to a greener future for aviation and support the aviation industry to achieve its net-zero target by 2050. 🛫 Ryanair has enabled lower-income citizens to travel by plane and visit new countries. ❌ However, the airline’s emissions have skyrocketed in 2023, emitting 15 Mt of CO2 and polluting more than ever before! Jo Dardenne, aviation director at Transport & Environment (T&E), mentions that the growth of low-cost airlines, such as Ryanair and Wizz Air will make the integration of sustainable aviation fuels impossible to keep up with the continuous growth of the aviation sector. 🧐 Surprisingly, even with the increase in low-cost flights, about 40% of European aviation emissions come from long-haul flights. 💸 The press release from Transport & Environment also highlights how little airline companies pay for their emissions, as it is still permitted to pollute for free! Vietnam Airlines has made a significant leap towards sustainability by refueling its Airbus Aircraft A321 with blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Changi Airports International Pte Ltd, Singapore. This historic flight, which took off on May 27th, marked Vietnam Airlines as the first airline from Vietnam to utilize SAF on a commercial passenger flight. Nguyen Chien Thang, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, emphasized the airline's commitment to sustainability, stating, “Vietnam Airlines believes that the use of SAF will help create a more sustainable future for the aviation industry, providing passengers with both excellent service quality and environmental friendliness.” In collaboration with Neste, the world’s leading producer of SAF, Vietnam Airlines is taking proactive steps to reduce its carbon footprint and support the global push towards net-zero emissions. Carrie Song, Senior Vice President Commercial Renewable Business at Neste, highlighted Neste’s dedication to supporting customers in their decarbonization efforts. This initiative not only underscores Vietnam Airlines' dedication to environmental stewardship but also sets a precedent for other airlines in the region to follow. Good news for our airlines! Thanks to the support of the Belgian government, we will be granting incentives for the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for all flights taking off at Brussels Airport in 2024. This is an important step towards the greening of our airport operations and allows us to cover a large part of the additional cost of this sustainable fuel. 👉Read more about it in our press release:

It’s been a year since the Lufthansa Group introduced Green Fares on continental flights and I am thrilled that over 1 million passengers have already opted for a more sustainable way of flying - collectively offsetting more than 77 thousand tons of CO2. With Green Fares, travelers can mitigate the carbon footprint of their flight through a combination of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and climate projects. Up to 20% of CO2 emissions are reduced through SAF, while 80% are offset through a wide portfolio of climate initiatives such as CarbonCure Technologies’ Sustainable Concrete, which recycles CO2 emissions into new concrete. We are also piloting Green Fares for long-haul flights with a positive uptake so far: 4% of travelers have booked this option. #MakeChangeFly #SAF
