❔ What if I don’t have Oncology experience? 😡Oncology is consistently the most invested in therapeutic area of clinical research.. but you have limited experience in this area and are tired of hearing time and time again that your years of experience are not relevant. ❓How do you get experience in Oncology without being given the chance? I’ve taken up multiple new therapeutics in the past, why is oncology any different? What if I don’t want to work in Oncology? 🦠Oncology is a highly complex area of research, understood as not one but many diseases. As a result of this, clinical trials are run differently and tend to be more complicated. Hence why companies will often require prior experience in this area! What can I do about it?.. ✋Seek internal opportunity. Frist things first, everyone has to start somewhere – make sure you’re putting your hand up with your current employer to gain experience in this area. 🔭On a similar note, if you’re really wanting to gain oncology experience, seek out companies that have multiple pipeline focus areas including oncology. That way, you might get in on the basis of one therapeutic and later down the line pick up an opportunity in oncology. 🔄Current times: with a competitive job market, hiring managers are in a position to be particularly selective. The market goes in cycles, this won’t last forever! ⚖Do you have other related experience that can be highlighted on your application? For example, does the company of interest focus on Immuno-oncology and you have lots of Immunology? 🍕 Lastly, whilst Oncology takes up a large proportion of market share, that still leaves many other therapeutics. I work with plenty of candidates who either don’t want to work in oncology for personal reasons, or have had a thriving career in other areas of interest. Feedback on lack of oncology experience can be frustrating, but don’t let this set you back. 🚧 Construction Begins at the RNA Research and Manufacturing Facility at Macquarie University! 🚧 Construction is underway on a new world-leading facility at Macquarie University, which will change the way the state faces its future human and animal health challenges. 🌱💉 The $96 million RNA Research and Pilot Manufacturing Facility is the centrepiece of NSW’s rapidly evolving RNA ecosystem and will support the State’s capability to develop and manufacture RNA-based therapeutics locally. RNA technology came to global prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it supported the rapid development and deployment of vaccines to combat the unprecedented health crisis. The new facility, which will include laboratories and other support spaces, will be the only site in Australia, and one of a handful in the world, where a wide range of RNA vaccines, therapeutics and delivery technologies will be independently produced, providing NSW with scalable manufacturing opportunities that will bolster sovereign capability.  🌏🧬 The facility is located at Macquarie University’s Wallumattagal campus, which is in the Connect Macquarie Park Innovation District, home to a host of medical and health-related organisations and industrial and technology startups. The facility will be operated by Aurora Biosynthetics, a subsidiary of Myeloid Therapeutics, a global leader in RNA technology. It will be overseen by RNA Australia, a newly formed, NSW-based company, which is a joint venture between the NSW Government and five universities, including Macquarie. He has more than 8 years’ work experience as a biostatistician since he obtained his PhD in Statistics from Baylor University, USA. During his career, he has been in charge of clinical trials across multiple therapeutic areas, e.g., genetic disorder, hematology, critical care, and oncology. He is actively in statistical methodology research and collaboration, e.g., dose optimization, missing data, and Bayesian hierarchical model. There are more than 20 peer-reviewed journal papers under his name since he started his career in biopharmaceutical industry. Helena Fan is a co-founder of The Lotus Group. She has an MBA from the University of Southern California and a Master in Public Health from West China University of Medical Science. Helena has a wealth of knowledge and expertise accumulated over her 20-year career in the staffing industry.
