New year, new opportunities! In 2023, SGC reached one of our biggest goals to date in achieving 501(c)(3) status in collaboration with Open Collective as our fiscal sponsor. ➡ https://lnkd.in/d5qppj3F Ok... BUT what does that really mean? That we can start to do more beyond just the small operating expenses covered by the founders up until this point. We've seen huge successes already and want to continue to do more WITH and FOR the cinematics community. As part of this big milestone, here are a number of ways to help us kick off 2024! 🎁 If you can spare it - and believe us... we know that's a big ask these days -- but IF you can, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the group or setting up a recurring donation for as little as $5 a month by donating at our page here: https://lnkd.in/d5qppj3F (and consult a tax professional/adviser on the specifics of what may apply to you) 🤝 Ask your company about sponsoring an event or collaborating with us to host something later this year, next year, whenever they might be ready... We're happy to do 1:1 scheduled meetings to give some background and share more about the ins-&-outs about all that! Every company and every event is unique so the discussion should be too. 🔝 Amplify! We completely understand if you or your company are unable to give at this time. Perhaps you know others who might be able to! Please help pass this along to your networks or on LinkedIn and share the message out there. And continue reposting and sharing updates from the organization! 🌐 **MOST IMPORTANTLY** Continue participating and being a part of the community on Discord, LinkedIn, and AT our events! We have more virtual webinars to come AND more in-person events to attend. We've so enjoyed this journey so far and are so excited to continue to do it with you!

I am often asked why I left my performing arts studio, even though the pandemic was incredibly disruptive to our business, ability to offer performing opportunities, and lives. This gifted article link may shed some light on the subject. As it indicates, rising costs and real estate constraints are significant hurdles that are only increasing, causing theater companies to reduce programs, consolidate on season planning, and share space. This results in less work for artists as well as less art for the community they serve. We need MORE organizations to collaborate on space, co-productions, and community-building. We need more sustainable models moving forward, in order to provide meaningful arts programming. #theater #collaboration #community #sustainablemodels

This year was my first attending the Sundance film festival in Park City, Utah and it’s definitely not the last! With all the possibilities to connect, learn, engage, and make life-long friendships this venue is a great outlet for all creatives. While there are many blogs and sources to read on and prepare for the next visit, I’m sharing some of my learnings from this week: 1. Visit Salt Lake City for films and quieter pace, give your all to Park city for networking, panel discussions, workshops, free events, giveaways, parties, and much more. 2. Don’t rely on ride sharing apps unless absolutely necessary! Park City offers a free shuttle service connecting all the venues and theaters. You never know who’s sitting next to you and how your life can change in a moment. 3. Dress in layers as heating indoors is intense, with a chance of flurries outside. Waterproof and/or platform boots will also become your tried and true. 4. Get to know people - your roommates, fellow attendees and presenters, festival volunteers, event organizers, other creatives, and everyone you meet. The energy of this place is unreal and ideas come from all sources. 5. Network as if your life depends on. There’s no better way to find your next collaborator, a fellow creative soul, or a supporter of your project. Speaking of project supporters, major shoutout to BraveMaker for everything Tony J. Gapastione and team are doing for the film community. Check out this Bravemaker fiscal sponsees page and contribute to the case that resonates the most - any amount helps sharing brave stories with the world 🙏 https://lnkd.in/gSpCnAdw #filmmaking #sundance #festival

This week the The Film and TV Charity launched Reel Impact, their new diversity grants programme. The Film and TV Charity has launched a strategic programme to support mid-level Black and Global Majority people working in film, TV and cinema, along with production company and industry organizations run by people from those backgrounds. Reel Impact will seek to address the impacts of systemic industry racism, drive better opportunities and support and develop the careers of under-represented talent. An initial round of grants of up to £10,000 ($12,500) for individuals and £25,000 for companies and orgs is being offered, with a second strand of the program aim at developing partnerships with organisations that can support Black and Global Majority professionals and creatives with access to skills and leadership development, networking and career development. Grant applicants need to demonstrate how the funds will benefit Black and Global Majority projects in the UK. Funding will be awarded in three rounds over two years, with the first round open from May 13 to June 30 2024. The first grants will be awarded in September, with further rounds expected in November this year and September 2025. “The grants element is intended to service the specific needs of applicants, rather than being oppressively prescriptive – so as our campaign launches, we want to encourage everyone in the film, TV, and cinema industry to help us spread the word throughout their networks,” said Marcus Ryder CEO of the Film and TV Charity.
