End-of-Life Dignity Doula,(Master level), Elder Care Advisor, Business 2 Business Development, Customers Service Specialist
It’s disheartening to see so many hospice companies falling short when it comes to the essentials of patient care and support satisfaction. Hospice care is meant to be a time of dignity and compassion for both patients and their families, but unfortunately, many organizations are missing the mark. One of the key issues is the lack of personalized care. Too often, care plans are generalized, with little attention to the unique needs of each patient. This leads to a decline in overall patient satisfaction and a disconnect in the very support systems families are relying on during an incredibly vulnerable time. Moreover, many hospice companies are hesitant—if not outright resistant—to adding additional services that could greatly benefit patients and families. Whether it’s expanding mental health support, offering alternative therapies, or integrating more holistic approaches, there’s often reluctance to innovate or invest in areas that could enhance the quality of care. Hospice care should be about more than just meeting the minimum requirements; it’s about creating a meaningful experience, driven by empathy, understanding, and a willingness to go above and beyond. It’s time for the industry to step up, listen to patient needs, and commit to evolving services that better align with the complexities of end-of-life care. What changes do you think could improve hospice care? I’d love to hear your thoughts. #PatientCare #HospiceCare #HealthcareInnovation #EndofLifeDoulas

My genuine interest in elderly care and the desire to improve the lives of residents would be very beneficial to any organization
World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, held every year on the second Saturday of October, is an opportunity for communities around the globe to unite and recognize the importance of compassionate end-of-life care. Palliative care focuses on easing pain and discomfort, reducing stress, and helping people have the highest quality of life possible. Hospice care focuses on quality of life when a cure is no longer possible, or the burdens of treatment outweigh the benefits. Palliative care is a type of medical care that helps relieve symptoms and stress associated with serious illnesses. It is designed to improve the quality of life for both the patient and their family. There are three main forms of palliative care: psychological, spiritual, and physical. The four levels of hospice defined by Medicare are routine home care, continuous home care, general inpatient care, and respite care. A hospice patient may experience all four or only one, depending on their needs and wishes. #nursingassistant, #CaregiverExperience, #ElderCare, #SpecialNeedsCare, #AustraliaCaregiverJobs, #OpenToWorkAustralia, #CaregiverVisaAustralia, #DisabilityCareAustralia, #SeekingCaregiverRoleAU, #agedcare, #goldcoastjobs, #individualsupport, #JoinRegis, #assistantinnursing

Dr Sarah Bell joined Garden House Hospice Care 10 years ago, and is our Medical Director. During that time, Sarah has broken down barriers relating to hospice care, championing living and dying well. Sarah spoke to us about why talking about death is so important this #DyingMattersAwarenessWeek. “One of the things I do as a palliative medicine specialist is to discuss patient’s wishes about their last days of life care. We ask where patients want to be looked after and where they want to be when they die; if there are treatments they don’t want; decisions relating to resuscitation, and anything related to the last period of their life. “This conversation is emotional and can be quite hard. Despite this, what I see, time after time, is the peace this conversation brings to patients and families. Simply put, patients walk a little taller and families smile a little more broadly, once those important decisions are made and key people are informed. “My wish for the future is for us all to feel able to talk about these important decisions as easily as we talk about our “bucket lists”. We sometimes forget that “bucket list” comes from “kick the bucket” – that is, a list of our things we want to do before we die. If we can talk about our “bucket list” so easily and joyfully, can we start to talk about all our other wishes related to our dying with equal ease? Dispelling the Myths about Hospice My Physician Must Bring Up That I Am Ready For Hospice Care. Patients and their families and doctors realize hospice is appropriate, but that often happens later than it should. Patients and family members can initiate hospice care, they do not need to wait for doctors to suggest it because sometimes they won’t. For example, if patients are receiving treatments they don't want anymore, they or a caregiver can initiate hospice by discussing the option with their doctor. Another alternative is to contact The Denver Hospice directly to ask for an evaluation and determine qualification. Every illness has different indicators for when it might be time to begin hospice. CEO of Anchor Health LLC | Dedicated to palliative and hospice medicine | Compassionate care to patients of all ages | Board member of California Hospice and Palliative Care Association (CHAPCA)
🩺Our team at Anchor Health, LLC is always happy to address myths and misconceptions about hospice care and share accurate information so you and your loved ones can make well-informed decisions. Here’s one that we often come across. Hospice patients spend most of their time lying in a bed, barely conscious. This is not the case. ▫️When a patient is admitted at an appropriate time, hospice care can improve his or her quality of life. Research also suggests that patients enrolled in hospice live on average 29 days longer. ▫️Hospice care is a very high level of care that happens in your home. Research shows that keeping patients in their home environment supports a higher quality of life. ▫️Research has also shown that in cases involving terminally ill patients, three-fourths of family caregivers agree that hospice care is a better choice. Of this group, 69 percent believe that involvement in hospice makes a better impact on the patient’s family as well.
