As I reflect on over eight months at Kaiser as a returning employee, I wanted to share my journey. Initially, I hesitated due to some lingering PTSD from my experiences at previous companies. Announcing a new job, meeting new coworkers, and embracing new experiences is always exciting, especially when you reach milestones that make you look forward to what’s next. However, I must acknowledge that many of my former colleagues have faced job loss after only a few months. With this in mind, I’d like to focus not on my tenure or past experiences but on how I’ve grown as a professional this past year. Returning to Kaiser, I anticipated some nostalgia and excitement about reuniting with old colleagues and the security of being in familiar territory. My career has largely been in corporate functions/G&A, but now, I find myself in the nurse leadership space. While I had some exposure to this area in the past, I didn’t have direct experience with those I had to lead, which presented a new challenge for me. Previously, although I understood our mission, I wasn’t deeply connected to it. My focus was on recruiting roles that ensured we could collect payments from members and provide resources for our employees. Now, I see that patient care is at the core of what I do. It’s crucial to hire the best people to support our employees, our members, and my own family. These past eight months have been filled with new experiences. I’ve found comfort in my teammates, the team I lead, and the leaders I partner with. This environment has taught me to channel my 20 years of experience to ensure we’re doing our best for the people who rely on us. Unlike my previous posts, this one isn’t about the impact I’m making but rather what I’m learning and appreciating on this journey as a talent acquisition leader. It’s not always about the bottom line or the projects; sometimes, the simplicity lies in what you’re doing for the people you serve. Whether it’s your team or your community, it’s vital to feel connected to something you’re passionate about. Friday was my last day at Ochsner. In just a few years, I worked under 4 different job titles in 3 separate departments. I learned so much and developed many great relationships along the way. I took countless opportunities for professional growth and development, giving me the chance to develop my skills and boost my resume. The decision to leave was extremely bittersweet. I am not leaving to take another job opportunity; I left to care for my family. This decision was harder than I anticipated, but it was a necessary sacrifice for the people I love most. The fear involved with relying on one income and creating a significant gap in my resume was daunting, but the confidence in my decision was driven by the amazing leaders I worked with. After my goodbyes, I felt deeply valued and empowered by their kind words and stories, especially after hearing the advice from the women in executive leadership. It fills my heart with joy and pride that I was understood in this decision and praised for it. It was always a fear of mine that I would not be taken as seriously as a professional if I did not prioritize work over family, but I was wrong. I am hoping this post reaches someone who may be debating this decision in their mind… possibly fearing the repercussions of stepping away from work temporarily. What I have learned from the amazing women that I worked with, is that you most certainly can do both, but if you have the option to take a break and prioritize your family, you won’t regret it. It will not keep you from being successful in the future. The right company will not look away from your resume because you took some time to be with your loved ones. From what I have learned from these successful female leaders, it is everyone’s dream to be able to be there for their family when they are in need. Not everyone has this opportunity, so if you are able to do it, don’t hesitate. Work will always be there, but our time with ill family members or small children is limited and precious. Taking this time requires courage, but your 80-year-old self would never regret spending more time with your family. Because of this experience, I will be back. I will work even harder than I ever had before because I will work for a company who valued me and the people who are most important to me. Thank you to Ochsner Health and to the leaders who believed in me. I will always be grateful for the opportunities that were offered to me, but I’ll never forget the kindness and compassion I have experienced in my last few weeks working for this organization. It’s not a goodbye, but a see you later!

As I celebrate my 18th year at Pro Search, I can't help but feel like a proud member of that crazy crowd—you know, the ones who absolutely love their jobs! And I truly do. My team and I are here to help you find just that! As I celebrate my 18 years, I'm also celebrating Pro Search's 30th anniversary! It's a testament to the resilience and perseverance of our team. Despite enduring the dot-com bust, the housing collapse, recessions, and even a global pandemic, we've not only survived but thrived! Against all odds, we've expanded into 38 states and 3 countries. Our team is here to stay, and ready to support yours whenever you need us. Reflecting on my time at Pro Search, one thing remains abundantly clear: the journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Thank You, VMG Health When I first joined VMG Health, I was a year and a half into my post-graduation career. Although my time in commercial banking was an insightful introduction to the working world, I felt an urge to explore something that resonated more with my professional interests. Five years ago, which feels like just yesterday, I came across a job posting for the business valuation division at VMG Health. After researching the firm, speaking with friends who worked there, and going through the interview process, I felt a strong connection to the opportunity.  From the moment I started with VMG, I felt welcomed by my second family on “Team Butterfly,” led by Kevin McDonough and later co-led by Colin Park. Our team not only prioritized delivering exceptional work to our healthcare clients but also valued understanding each other’s backgrounds and motivations.  During my five years at VMG, I evolved from a young professional uncertain of my path to someone with lifelong connections and a deep understanding of the dynamic healthcare industry. I discovered a new passion for the field and clarity on my future career direction.  Rising from an analyst to a manager, I had the privilege of learning from some of the brightest minds in healthcare transaction advisory. These individuals were not only knowledgeable but also generous with their expertise, helping newcomers like me navigate the complex healthcare business world. VMG provided me with the guidance and direction I needed. As a manager, I tried to embrace the open-door policy that I had benefited from as an analyst, mentoring new hires and fostering a family-like atmosphere. This approach, while not in the original job description, proved to be the special sauce that has contributed to VMG Health’s success. Now, as I embark on a new journey to pursue an MBA at Vanderbilt Owen’s School of Management, I want to share two key takeaways: 1. Don’t feel confined by your first job out of college. Stay curious and open-minded as you navigate trials and tribulations, allowing your interests to evolve. 2. Seek a workplace where you can stretch your curiosity and apply your skills in a supportive environment with diverse perspectives. Reflecting on my time at VMG, I wouldn’t change a thing. It was the best five years of my professional life, and I am committed to upholding the values and knowledge I gained from my colleagues who guided me through my growth. This people-first management style, championed by leaders like Greg Koonsman and Cyndy Carr, was instrumental to my development. Thank you to my fellow VMGers for an unforgettable five years. I look forward to staying connected and witnessing the firm’s continued growth from afar.

In the next week, I will mark a significant turning point in my career journey. We all have experienced selecting a role that is not an exac fit, joining a lineage of talented individuals who have encountered similar situations during their career. Over the past couple months, the process of reflecting on a transition has been full of highs and lows, encouraging and distressing but at the end incredibly profound. It reminds me that even with an exhaustive due diligence, a single decision point doesn't always equate to an alignment with what you believe are your mission, vision and values. While I understand the business aspect, it's essential to acknowledge the personal impact and the power of professional and personal connections. Comprehending the career diversion and the business rationale, the profound personal impact has been extraordinary. Being able to take the time necessary to research, spend time in prayer and reflection, and access to the counsel of trusted colleagues and friends, I’m reminded of the intricate balance between professional commitment, personal commitment and overall personal well-being and how that must align to create a work-life balance. Finding a place that is committed to being transformational in the healthcare delivery model through the pharmacy benefit management (PBM) element has been incredibly refreshing.
