AFYEL Cohort 4 Week 1 Learning Experience Recap!🌱 We kicked off our journey with an inspiring Week 1 at AFYEL! Our fellows engaged in thought-provoking lectures that broadened their understanding of clean energy, starting with a comprehensive overview delivered by Engr. Hafiz Bello. This session highlighted the critical roles of policy and regulation in the energy sector—showing that engineering goes hand-in-hand with strategic thinking and collaboration. Our fellows discovered: - The importance of engaging with policymakers to drive sustainable energy solutions. - How interdisciplinary efforts are vital in overcoming clean energy challenges. The learning continued with a session led by Evan Kramer, focusing on photovoltaics and solar resources. Our fellows explored Africa's vast potential in solar energy and learned about the basics of solar PV systems. Key insights included: - Capturing and utilizing the 75% heat loss from solar panels can significantly enhance energy efficiency. - Understanding environmental factors like shading is crucial for optimizing solar performance. We are excited to witness our fellows' passion for pushing boundaries in clean energy, particularly their interest in harnessing solar heat for innovative applications, including biogas systems. Stay tuned as we continue this enlightening journey towards a sustainable energy future for Africa! 🌞💡 #AFYEL #CleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #EnergyPolicy #Sustainability #AfricaLeads #EnergyTransition #BiogasResearch

🔍 #Trivia: “The Great Renewable Energy Dilemma” 🌍 Which renewable energy source should Africa prioritize in the next decade? With Africa sitting on 60% of the world’s best solar resources, should we focus on solar? What about the vast potential of hydropower and the abundant land for onshore wind? 🌬️💧 Each source has its trade-offs: Solar Power: Ideal but is infrastructure scalable? Onshore Wind: Land availability is high, but are grid connections sufficient? Hydropower: Offers great potential but comes with environmental risks. Bioenergy: Utilizes waste but is sustainability achievable at scale? 💡 Critical Thought: As we consider diverse energy needs, economic realities, and climate policies, which technology provides the best balance of growth and sustainability? Join the discussion and share your insights! #AFYEL #RenewableEnergyDilemma #SolarVsWind #Hydropower #Bioenergy #SustainableDevelopment #CleanEnergyAfrica

#Offshore Wind Power is a key track at the Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders (AFYEL). As #Africa is embracing clean energy with onshore wind power it has become paramount to #train and prepare a new set of workers who will lead the advancement and #acceleration of #Offshore Wind in all African countries. This is what we are doing through the six months #AFYEL Program. As we welcome our new fellows for cohort 4, Let’s continue pushing towards a sustainable energy future! In the video, we showcase projects like the Lake Turkana Wind Farm in Kenya which is already powering 1.5 million homes and creating a brighter, greener future for all.
