Is East Africa leaving an indelible footprint on the sands of time? The East African Community (EAC) is second footprint we are looking at in Africa. It is another regional economic community like #ECOWAS. and the defunct Arab Maghreb Union. An intergovernmental organisation in East Africa, the EAC's membership consists of eight states: The Democratic Republic of the #Congo The Federal Republic of #Somalia The Republics of #Burundi #Kenya #Rwanda #SouthSudan #Uganda, and #Tanzania. Salva Kiir Mayardit, the President of South Sudan, is the current EAC chairman. The organisation was founded in 1967, collapsed in 1977, and was revived on 7th July 2000. The main objective of the EAC is to foster regional economic integration. In November 2009, the EAC member states signed the Common Market Protocol, which allows for the free movement of goods, persons, services, labour, and capital while ensuring rights to residence and establishment are protected. This made them the first region to allow a single market in Africa. East Africa is indeed an enviable region. The Common Market Protocol became effective in July 2010. Guess what this logo can mean or stand for!
