🌍Strengthening Accountability in Women’s Leadership: A Global Health Imperative.🌍 The latest analysis from Global Health 50/50 in our BMJ Collection paper, “Strengthening systems of accountability for women’s leadership in the health sector”, highlights a significant gap in gender equality within the global health sector, particularly in leadership roles. Despite women making up the majority of the health workforce, their representation in leadership remains alarmingly low. Significant Finding: Only 10.4% of US Fortune 500 healthcare companies have a female CEO, and women from low-income countries hold less than 1% of board seats in global health organisations. In the paper, Kent Buse discusses how it’s clear that without robust accountability mechanisms, commitments to gender equality risk becoming mere rhetoric. He outlines practical steps for strengthening accountability to ensure real progress.
